questions about the Ruger

Can you tell me why you do not think its new in the box ? I emailed Fugate Firearms about the gun and was assured it was new unfired in the box and they stated they would honor a three day inspection. I am thinking of pulling the trigger on the auction, does anyone know where I can get one cheaper ? I like the gun and Fugate has a great rating on gunbroker so that makes me feel good about the deal. Please any input would be helpful. I would like to save a few bucks if someone can lead me to another one,, I need it to be new in the box if possible. Does anyone know if this gun is considered Rare ? I just dont see any around the gunshops.

Ruger hasn't manufactured the security six/speed six pistols since 1988 which is why you don't see many in the gun shops but you do see them at gun shows and pawn shops. The gun isn't particularly rare. They where a moderate priced pistol when manufactured and the speed six models didn't have adjustable sights like the security six models did. While a good gun, there is little reason to pay over $300 for one IMO. As for being "new in box" I'd doubt that any 21+ year old pistol can be considered new since they've in all likelihood been previously owned. It may have been put away and left unfired and to someone that may be worth 2X the going price, after all there's a sucker born every minute.

Yeah, if you use the buy it now price of $650, it better come with candles, a nice meal and some Vaseline.

Just do a search here and at S&W forums for Fugate prior to you buying that gun.
With a scratch on the recoil shield like that it has been opened and closed quite a bit.

Yes, that and there is just a trace of a cylinder ring on the side of the cylinder and a trace (if you look close) of a carbon ring on the cylinder face.

The Speed Six is a good, strong revolver. Yes, they haven't been made for several years and you don't see too many for sale. A lot of people have started buying these up now. The price may be a little high to some people but you are the one buying. If it's what you want and you think the price is OK, go for it.

One of the best CCW pieces ever made. Like an improved K frame magnum. I love mine. But that price would be more appropriate for one of the rare subtypes, not the standard .357. You can get those for $350 to $400 pretty easily. I found mine for $150 and gave the guy an extra fifty.

Do a search for "speed six" on GB and there's a bunch of them that come and go. Just keep a daily check on it for a few weeks and you'll get one for a good price. If you're absolutely determined to get NIB right now you will have to shop around more, but NIB means nothing for these wheelguns. You have to work real hard to seriously injure any of the Six line.

And if you decide to get that overpriced one, no worries. It's only money and it's an extremely nice piece. If I were to put an inherent, intrinsic value on mine it would be in that range or higher. I would not trade it for a mint Python.

John Fugate searches all the forums and buys a lot of guns. He's got some pretty nice guns for sale but they are all high. Like the mod said , take a look at the S&W forum. He had some problems over there.
If I'm not mistaken he bought two of those Rugers at the same time on either this forum or the Ruger forum. Can't remember the price but it wasn't anywhere near $650 each.

reserve not met. High bid was $300. If you ask me, that is about all it is worth! It is listed again. Still BIN at $650.

the price for this is too high. you can do better. fugate usually as a high price on their offerings. buyer beware.

Look elsewhere. As stated, Fugate is historically high and over rates guns. It is an excellent gun that you can get used but in great shape much cheaper if you are patient. Don't rule out a Security Six either. Great guns as well.

I recently purchased a Security Six in excellent shape for $299. I'm positive you can get a better deal somewhere else.

I have noticed that people do not like John Fugate because he gets high prices for his guns. He only deals in VERY nice guns and these guns will bring a premium price. I have never bought anything from him so I can't comment from experience. With over 1700 transactions on Gunbroker, he must be doing something right.

There's also the adage of "a sucker born every minute".

I wouldn't buy a gun from this fella ever. He buys low, overstates the condition, and sells high. Do a search on nearly every gun forum and you'll find the same story about this guy...

If you search around, you'll likely find more than few folk who think that the Fugate condition ratings are overly inflated.

The Fugate business model, according to several gun forums, seems to be to buy average guns and sell them at high prices under the premise that the guns are somehow super-clean and super-nice. In many cases, the buyer is too naive to know that they just threw a lot of money away for no good purpose. The Fugates also seem to have a behavior pattern of getting very in-your-face about any complaints; they have been escorted off several forums for this kind of behavior. I would likely never buy a Fugate firearm simply because I would not want to have to contend with their 'customer service' attitude.

If they have what you want and you think the price is fair - buy it. In most cases, you can likely find better for far less.
