Even though I'm a resident of Texas, because I'm active duty Marine corps stationed in Cali. I can't apply for NFA items until my active duty term is up and I'm back in Tx for good? Just had a vague conversation with an LGS from the Austin area and he didn't elaborate much. I wanted to apply for my items before my deployment next month so they'd be there when I come home...

I'm going off of memory here, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Active duty has no bearing on it. Your state of residence is what is important. If you changed residence to california, then you would have to wait until you changed it back to texas.

I've been in 4 1/2 yrs and have not changed my residency to Ca. I'm still "legally" a Tx resident but have been stationed here for a year and half. I'll be getting out in December when I get back from Afghan.
