I put a new 18 inch barrel on a 10/22 rifle and then placed the whole thing into an aftermarket 22 Charger stock. This is essentially the Ruger Charger pistol grip stock, as in no shoulder stock.

The overal length of the gun is now 26.25 inches and the barrel is 18, as mentioned above.

So is this a legal custom assembly? I think so as my research so far shows this ATF information:

    (8) The term ''short-barreled rifle'' means a rifle having one or more barrels less than sixteen inches in length and any weapon made from a rifle (whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise) if such weapon, as modified, has an overall length of less than twenty-six inches.

    As Sam Cade said, barely.

I'm curious though, what exactly are you aiming for with this project?

Put a green laser on it and plink away! I kinda like unusual looking guns.

Dont drop it, or the shock could sink the receiver in by .3"
At the exact instant the ATF helicopters show up and take you away.

    They know who you are.

Yeah, just keep a rifle stock around incase you do mess it up and sink the action.

i might just put it back in the factory stock and sleep well. A 1/4 inch isn't a lot of buffer.

Funny. But, remember, ATF killed Randy Weaver's wife over this kind of thing.

In Michigan it would need to be registered as a pistol anyway, Isn't that dumb. Sidefolders, underfolders, and pretty much any bullpup imaginable is considered a pistol in MI. Anything less than 30 inches, but greater than 26.... HOW DUMB!

It was Lon Horiuchi to be exact. The same FBI HRT sniper involved in both Ruby Ridge and Waco tragedies.

It was an FBI Agent that killed her. What a tragedy.
Anybody want to buy Randy Weavers property up here in Naples, ID? It's for sale now.
