    Hey dudes,

So I recently acquired a good deal on a minty older Remington 700 BDL..
Its chambered in 300 Win Mag.

I'm really wanting to go out and get a buck this year, but my funds are limited.

    I have this simmons scope..

Was wondering if you guys think it would do a 100 yard shot and hold up for a season or two on a 300 Win mag rifle?

Somebody removed the front and back iron sights, so my only option is to use this scope, or wait it out until next year..

It came with a $15 Bushnell sport view.. but the Bushnell rep informed me that I would end up with broken glass and such if I used it on a 300 mag.

    Thanks,
    Steve

I personally want more eye relief than the CLAIMED 3.5" for a heavy kicking rifle. Its not about weither or not the scope will hold up, its more a question of will the rifle try to implant it into my forehead.

I'm saying this as a guy whose been waylaid by a cheap scoped 06 and has the scar to remember it by.

I certainly can't say for sure but I wouldn't risk a drive/trip, stalk, wait on the possibility of failure of a $53.00 scope.

I figure if the scope costs near the same as Federal .300 ammo, I'm suspect.

Not universally true. Certain lines of each, probably, but Simmons does not sell an equivalent to the Elite series. Also just because they're made in the sam plant does not mean that they are the same scope or even of similar quality. The different brands have their scopes OEM'd to different specs and using different designs even if the same company is doing the manufacturing.

OP-I would spend a few more $$ and step up to at least a Redfield Revolution (the only Leupold product I would recommend), Bushnell Trophy or Nikon Prostaff in a new scope or keep your eyes open for a good deal on a quality used scope. Spending a little more money can get you into a scope that will last and you won't have any reservations about.

Things have changed a great deal in the optics industry since the 90's. Bushnell owns Simmons, which explains the stickers. That tells you nothing about where and by whom it was made. Regardless, they are still and always have been different scopes.
