LGS has a "Wiley Clapp" MKIV 5" Colt 45acp which is new, two digit serial nr. Other than name, what makes these Colts special? Any idea of serial number range?

The feature set.

If you like the features on the model it is a good gun. All the Colts are made about the same, it's just what features you want.

Since a 1911 is not like a Glock, and most folks don't have the tools or skill-set to change parts, it's usually a good idea to get what you want up front.

My early WC LW Commander is an absolute rattle trap. Sounds like a gun from a movie. Clacks audibly with just minor handling.

But it is easily one of the best shooting and superbly reliable 1911's I've ever shot.

Edit: picture not loading. It's my Commander and a target with a chewed out hole at 10yrds.

The best thing the wc has going for it is the front strap checkering. Colt just won't give front straps any treatment and when they do they charge a premium.
