I said it made it easier to get away with (undetected) not that poaching would increase because of it. Not just at night but also on posted land where permission to hunt has been denied.
@ jimmy ray, you said suppressors "make it easier to get away with poaching". i have suppressors and i disagree. i have a 5.56 supressor and to get it "hollywood" quiet you have to get subsonic. that makes a 55grain BB. it tumbles, floats and would probably not even kill a deer 7 times of 10. with a normal load your round will still give the supersonic crack, secrets out. they may not know where you are because of the supressor, but its easy to find you dragging the carcass out.

i agree with others, if you are going to poach a bow is much more convienent.

the arguement for hunting with a supressor needs to be 1-for hearing conservation. i know i dont hunt with plugs in my ears. i need to hear the slightest noise bambi makes, shes not always loud.

Unfortunately, no they are not legal in Oklahoma for hunting. I think they should be legal. Since I moved here to OK 8 years ago, I have heard lots and lots of stories about people poaching deer, and I know a lot of people around here that own suppressors. I have never once heard of anyone around here poaching with a suppressor.

My wife's stepdad moved from his native country of England to Texas 4 or 5 years ago. I figured he would have pretty narrow views about guns, but he surprised me in a few ways. He did think it was a little odd that a handgun was part of my daily wardrobe; however, he doesn't think it is odd at all, now. He told me he thought it was stupid that we can't legally hunt with a suppressor or "muffler." He said where he grew up, hunting without one would be considered rude because it might disturb your neighbors. I was shocked. The only thing that shocked me more is how cheap a rimfire suppressor is over across the pond.

I know Al Frankowitz's Minnesota is a NO on silencer ownership. I remember mentioning to an older guy working at Cabelas I owned silencers and he looked at me like he was about to rush to the phone and dial for the police like I was an assassin or professional poacher. I calmed him down and assured him they are legal and I was a resident of Oregon, not Minniesoda any longer:D. I still dont think he believed me in that they are legal.

Nebraska is. SBR's are also legal for hunting. That's one reason I'm building a 12.5" 6.8 SPC. It's going to be my new deerslayer. Eventually I'll get a can for it to help save my ears, too. I worry about the damage I've done to my ears while hunting. I really should start wearing some amplified earmuffs.

Possession of a suppressor in VT is a misdemeanor punishable by a $50 fine.

They are prohibited expressly to make poaching more difficult.

I really want to get a supressor for my rifle. Hell it was hard enough to get a deer when baiting was legal. Now the only time I've seen them is kicking them up and I don't wanna wound them. If I could possibly get another shot that's more chances which is worth it in my book.

WA State - Today - No.

We cannot even discharge a firearm with a suppressor attached, however there is a House Bill (HB1016) and a Senate Bill (SB5112) in the works to fix our current laws...

Hopefully they will fix it, seems like quite a few are in favor of fixing it.
