what I’m looking for is similar to the pictured pouch below, but with the round holder sized for 223, not 308 or larger. I’ll probably get one of these anyway and see if I can just get the Velcro strip that holds 223 rounds somewhere else. Does anyone know where I could find either of these or both together?

It’s going on a Savage Axis if it makes a difference.

I've got a couple of these

They cheek rest isn't as high as the one you posted, but they are well made and work well. And the loops do hold .223 securely. They have loops inside the zippered compartment, and velcro ammo carrier that can stick on the outside where I have my flag patches.

These are what I use on all my rifles. Definitely two thumbs up from me!

I actually remove the outside velcro ammo loops and replace them with morale patches as well just for fun. Still have the ones in the pocket for spare ammo if you want that. I also put laminated drop charts for each rifle's preferred load in the pocket.

That's exactly what I do as well.

Awesome, thanks guys. What I’m looking for is the outside Velcro patch that holds the 223 sized rounds. I’ll email Midway and see if by chance they sell them separately. I’ll be ordering one anyway but I’d like a couple of the Velcro patch carriers separately. Maybe I can find out who makes them and contact them directly.

Barring that, any of us with an appropriate sewing machine and inclination can make whatever ammo “patches” you could want.

The last one I bought was a Cabelas branded for an Axis II. The elastic on that one and all other elastic style I’ve seen, is flat. Spacing may vary from brand to brand but I imagine most any cartridge will fit (within reason).

Ya know I hadn't thought about this until now, but I should have two of the black ammo loop thingies and one in the coyote tan from the rests I ordered. If you don't find something you'd prefer better, assuming I can find them I'd send you the ones I have.

That would be awesome, I’d really appreciate it. Let me know if you find them and I’ll give you the address.

There are tons of leather crafters on a site called Etsy that make them. I searched for rifle cheek pad and got plenty. Leather on an Axis is like putting lipstick on a pig though.
Midway has a few that are nylon and Velcro. But only a handful of them will work as a cheek riser and hold ammo.

I’m real bad about using evilbay for most of my shopping, been using it for many years. I usually find what I’m looking for and with enough patience I’ll get it at a price I’m happy with. I agree, leather would just be wrong on an axis. I got a cheapie for $10 just to see just how I want it to be then I’ll either find one how I want it or have one made to my design.

if you cant find what your looking for, you can sew/rivet/grommet the loops shorter, or put two in each.

Are we still talking about this? @bullseye308 - did you yet find a suitable 223 compatible Velcro shingle, or a suitable stock pouch with a 223 shingle? If not, what dimensions of a Velcro shingle and what color are you needing?
