It is finally here. I picked it up over my lunch hour today. The fit and finish is delightful, as expected. I had no time to go any further with it. Pictures and a range report as soon as i get this <expletive> alarm system working.
 
Congrats, They are a beautiful gun. I waited from the time they were announced until mid Feb to get mine. Ruger did a great job on these and reports are very positive. I haven't fired mine yet.
 
Congrats.......better get em now, cause these are only going to go up in value. Too nice of a gun for the price.

On the contrary. Once the novelty has worn off, theyll settle into that $600 range. My LGS has several for $629.99. My friend and coworker searched high and low, with my help, and got his last November for $850 otd. Range trips have proved frustrating at best, and I'm beginning to see buyers remorse. They are sharp looking, and classically beautiful. But search, they're not hard to find anymore, seeing em used on arms list here and there too. I will say congrats on your purchase, hope your luck is better than most. I mean that sincerely.

If it does fail you as a good buy, try the Springer 1911. Cheaper, reliable, need I say more?
 
Thats odd, I found that mine has ran over 2k of 230 cast bullets thru it with no problem, and I've found almost no negetive feed back. I wonder what you're talking about? I have found plenty of negetive feedback on springfields. On the upside my springfields and rugers all run flawless. I imagine you'll see the price increase. Ruger done it right, and for the 1000 dollar and under 1911s its pretty hard to beat. You made an excellent choice. The only thing you need to do is buy lots of bullets cause its fun to shoot.

Lemon, I suppose. But, as I said, I didn't buy it. The ones I have seen have dropped in price, not increase. My Springfield does what my friends SR does, only it doesnt jam. I wanna say he has around a thousand through his, maybe more, and it is still super tight. I suggested he have it worked on, but like me, he's stubborn and doesn't like to baby his guns. I hope everyone who buys one gets a good one, I really do. I will say this much for them, when they don't jam they are a comfy pistol. Being that it's Ruger, I'm sure any and all issues there could be will be manufactured
out. I have seen some disgust from guys at my LGS due to the tightness of the SR. But, like I said, it ain't my gun, so obviously YMMV. Just wanted to give an objective situation.

On a lighter note, Hogue makes a BA pair of grim reaper grips (white "ivory" with black inlaid reaper) that look awesome against that brushed stainless SR.

I have seen exactly 4 bad reviews on forums and a couple of them I doubt know the difference between a toothpick and a pistol. My SR1911 is better than the 2 Springers I have in the same price range and near equal to my TRP as far as trigger and fit and finish. I would have a hard time believing anyone can find a 1911 for the same price ($650 is what I paid) that is the same quality.
 
Can't believe everything you read. I don't really trust forum reviews without authenticity of sorts. That's why I don expect anyone to believe what I say should they choose not to. Like I said, shot his and it's a gun to be babied. Therefore, I'll stick to my springer which doesn't have to be, and was cheaper. It's not as pretty, but it works. However, glad yours does, and they are fine looking pistols to be sure.

Toothpicks are made of wood...I think.:)

These aren't collector's pieces. I want one but I'm not going to pay a premium for one. Hopefully they'll come out with a black-finished slide version. By then hopefully the hype will have calmed down a bit.
 
I figure it because I bought one of the first ones that came to Okla. I paid $658 plus tax. I found the gun to be outstanding and well made. Far better then in the price range of a SA Mil-Spec. The gun shot everything I put in it, was very accurate. The next SR I saw here went for over $800. I am by no means a 1911 expert, but I have had and do own several high end 1911's. I will stand by my statement, and again it is only MHO this gun will go up in price. It is a much better weapon then the price tag that is on it.

Why does it have to babied?
 
I wonder what his friend is shooting thru his. I'm shooting 230 lrn over 5.4 grains of unique. This load shoots great in my range officer and Sr. I suggest your friend call ruger. Stuff does happen. Sometimes I pray it happens. Like when my Springfield loaded screwed up and locked up, Springfield did a complete fit and finish job and installed a new match grade barrel and sent 2 more mags back. I don't mind sending a gun back, its usually to my advantage

They are right at the same price as the remington R1 and do expext them to end up selling around the mid 600 range.

The big problem I see compared to the springfields is I hope they become availible like the remingtons have.

I've purchased 2 of them from my LGS at $619.99 and he seems to be doing quite well.

It has been posted by multiple dealers on different forums that wholesale cost is right around $535. That price is nearly 20% over cost.

I have to agree with those questioning this. They are selling high right now simple due to scarcity and "newness" factor. When that wears off they will come down to what.

In fact I am a little amused that people will pay over $800 for these. Part of the appeal is their value. When you go over $800 they run into much stiffer competition in that respect. At around $600 they are attractive, over $800 not so much IMHO.
 
Congrats on your new gun. I'm still on a list... Glad I got on it before Ruger stopped taking orders. Hoping that when they catch-up by the end of May all of their backordered guns (like mine) will get delivered. I can't find one anywhere locally or on line for a reasonable price (< $700 is reasonable IMO).
 
I have pm several of the members for the location of the gun stores selling these for under $650, only one has responded with a name. I still don't have any locations. If you know where I can buy a new SR-1911 for under $650 please let me know. These is not trying to prove a point, I really want to buy one and I still say they are too good a pistol to remain at these prices for long. Thanks for any help you can give me.

surjimmy, if you actually get some good leads and happen to find more than one in your price range, please let me know about it. I'll do the same for you... I may have one on order but if I find one to have in hand I will certainly grab it up.
 
Sorry I have been absent from the thread. Work has been crazy.

I paid 675.00 out the door for my pistol. I am going to try to get to the range with it in the next few days.
