I would say that as far as New Years Day goes, this particular one just couldn't get any better.

Started the day with breakfast in bed, made by my new wife. She went out after, leaving me home alone to sit back on the couch, clean a few guns that I wanted to work on and watch several hours of "Band of Brothers" and football! The 1911 I shoot USPSA with was REALLY dirty!

The wife came in early this evening with a home made dinner that her Aunt sent home with her. After dinner she had a twinkle in her eye (if you know what I mean) and now I'm finishing the day off catching up on some emails and reading a few posts on this site.

Gonna be real hard beating this day anytime soon!!!!! :D Ok, maybe I'm bragging just a little. Can you blame me?

You ain't been married long, have you.

Enjoy it while you can. Won't be too long until presenting your wife with a custom made multi-thousand dollar piece of jewelry will earn you a hug--if you're lucky.

Your thread title is definitely on target. It won't get any better, but it sure will change...

Ha! I agree with you JohnKSA. I've been in the house for 3 days with the wife of 20 years and I'm ready to climb a friggin wall! Going hunting tomorrow and aint coming back until the sun goes down:D

Rock, good to hear you had a nice day. Store it in your memory bank for a rainy day.

I am glad to hear somebody had a good day
I am going shooting in the mourn. Cant wait

Pay no attention to the Negative Nelsons. I'm married 20 years and still have 'good days'. Just means you married the right woman. But if you want it to last you need to clean your pistols more often.

RR1,

Cultivate her well (without spoiling her), sounds as if she's a real keeper... Does she shoot, too??

Range Time."

I had a day just like yours on saturday, except I did the range time with my wife. I believe, therefore that my day was better than yours!:neener:

Oh, and BTW, I've been married for 21 yrs. Definitely got me a keeper!

Notice a big difference between Lee and John? Maybe I haven't been married long enough, (Coming up on 9 years in a couple months,) but I don't spoil my wife with expensive jewelry and things don't seem to be the hell to which John alludes. It's far from perfect, but we treat each other good and things seem to work.

I am reminded of a Dennis Quaid quote from the movie In Good Company. When Topher Grace's character asks Quaid how he maintains a long happy marriage, Quaid responds "Well...ya just find someone that's good to share a foxhole with, and then when she's not around you keep your d**K in your pants."

At any rate, RR1, it's good that ya had a good day, and I hafta agree that more range time (Of both kinds,) can only help.

+1

I've been married or 12 years and we are happier today than ever...looking forward to a great '06. The "magic" only goes away if you ignore your partner. If you meet her needs she'll meet (and often exceed) yours!

There are bad apples out there, but they are few and far between

YMMV!

I wouldn't call it hell.

My wife enjoys shooting, occasionally asks to be taken to the range, has bought me guns and ammo for gifts, doesn't nag, enjoys a lot of the same things I do, etc. We enjoy being together and spend most of our free time together even when we could be apart.

But things aren't at all like they were when we first married (in more ways than one), and I think that most honest married people would have to admit the same.

I remember the early years :)

I guess I am blessed because not much has changed except the two boys (7 and 10) that take up a lot of our time. We attempted to get some time to ourselves yesterday at the range. Dropped them off at some friends and had lunch but when we got to the range they were full and had a line.

Oh well, at least we got some alone time.

We have been married 7 years

and I was talking the other day about bringing my gun locker in from the garage to the bedroom closet. She says "I wish you would, what if we have a fire in the garage?":what: Of course she grew up on a farm with firearms part of her life. We still go out on dates, and I try to make sure she knows just how important she is to me, and yes I spoil her. I figure if she's spoiled enough no one else is going to want her. Besides that look she gets when I do is worth it. Oh, and she doesn't need multi-thousand dollars jewels to feel that way. Hell, I had to argue with her to accept a diamond wedding ring. She wanted a plain band. I got a keeper.

I bow in wistful admiration of you. You will eventually find out that they're all insane and it's our duty to mitigate their impact on society. You're doing God's work.

Since I met my wife we've shared 17 years of happily married bliss ...

... and 17 out of 23 ain't bad! :D

Just kidding. All 23 years have been great, and I'm looking forward to at least 23 more. It was my father-in-law that turned me on to hunting, and my wife who bought me my first firearm. She has taken a couple of defensive handgunning course with me and enjoys shooting, although she is clear that it's my hobby and not hers.

Can it get any better? You betcha! Maybe the intense heat of newness wears off, but it is often replaced with a deep warmth that is both steady and comfortable. I don't doubt that for many marriage has been problematic, but in my case, I consider my wife a gift from the almighty and thank him for her on a regular basis.

Listen, unless your day included a Lewinsky while watching Band of Brothers and/or the football game it CAN get better. Been married nearly ten years with four kids and life has never been better. It all depends on the woman. If you've got one of these new age self-centered narcissistic creatures life can be hell on earth. But if you were smart enough (or lucky enough) to marry a good girl then get on your knees and thank God.

I did but time has changed her. Now I'm asking God if I can legally trade her in on a newer model.:neener:

All kidding aside, Marriage is what both of you make of it.
