I thought I would never be one of those guys who stumbled into a decent deal....until I was. I'm always on the lookout for a nice used Leupold to swap out for whatever crap I initially put on a rifle, and Friday was no exception. Visiting my favorite gun pusher, I spied both these newcomers, a VX-3 1.75 X 6 X32 (top), and a VX-2 3X9X40 (bottom), both in excellent condition, matte, and with the original covers. They were priced at $249 and $199 respectively, which seemed attractive, and I went home to see if I had rifles that could use them..

Went back Saturday, offered $400 for both (figuring I'd have to pay tax on it) and got both for $400 total, tax included! Both the shop owner and I were satisfied, the first win-win I've ever seen in real life. The VX-2 was swapped out for a Bushnell rimfire atop my CZ452 and sighted in today. The VX-3 was swapped out for a Cabelas Pine Ridge 2X7 and is now resting and sighted atop a Savage Axis 223 that is my designated bigger-than-rabbit "varmit" gun. Fortune favors the lucky.

sweet pair of scopes at a great price!
Ive actually be considering getting one of those vx-3s for my .375, i think its about time for me to have another go round with leupold. Id have jumped all over those just for that one.

Well done! I'd have bought them, too, even if I didn't have an immediate application for them. Always another rifle project in the offing, or a current rifle that could use a scope upgrade. You got a deal!

I scored an 18X 50mm Burris Black Diamond, NIB, at a pawn shop last year for $250 (MSRP is $1200)!

It looked good, but was concerned about it being a counterfeit knockoff- this is a HUGE problem with high end optics these days. Even some flip-up sights are being copied!

A call to Burris confirmed it is genuine, the folks there were great.

Nice work, Prof!

You got a good deal. I think the VX-2 3-9x40 is an all time good scope that’s useful for many applications. We have one on my sons Vanguard S2 30-06.

Bought the VX-2 before I got dealer discount on Leupold. My first purchase using the discount was a VX-3 1.75-6x32. There is just something I like about that scope. I ordered it with the heavy duplex reticle(cuz it didn’t come in a German #4). When it came the windage turret didn’t track and stuff that looked like dandruff fell out of it when turned. Sent it in to Leupold to be fixed and inquired about the cost of having a German #4 installed. CS told me since they had to disassemble the scope anyway they’d do it free. Scope came back and worked perfectly.

I mounted it on a Marlin 30-30, to some the scope may be overkill on a 30-30, but not to me.

I would someday like to own a .404 Jeffery and think the scope would be just about perfect with one.

Glad you persevered and found a good deal. After years of looking for bargain used scopes at gun shows, I gave up. It's odd that used scopes are priced so high. Fortunately, my nephew, as a member of a buying club deal, can get new Leupolds for 45% off MSRP. Also, at my local Bushnell outlet, I get Bushnell scopes for 35% off MSRP as an NRA member.

wecome to the dark side, I don,t think you will ever leave. I bought this leupold 1x4 hog scope and mount from a dealer at a gun show last week for 125.00, he takes all the scopes and mounts off of rifles and sells them separate. I,m not in love with the retical, but I,ll find a short rifle to put it on.

To get deals you just gotta put in the effort.

I got a rifle with a really nice Burris Signature Select scope. Sold the rifle for basically what I had in it and kept the scope

Got an unfired Russian SKS for $119 OTD.

Latest was an unfired Browning Buckmark semi-auto .22 for $280 complete with case, 2 mags.

Lotsa others.
