hey all,

so after much deliberation (most of which you got to experience with me) on what rifle and setup to get, here it is!

remingtonn 700 police, had the barrel cut down to 24" and recrowned (blue on crown). 1pc seekins precision base 20moa, seekins 'real' tac rings, holding a bushnell elite 6500 tactical outfitted with butler creek goodies (flip up caps and ARD). and for $2, the ARD looks real sharp i think. harris swivel bipod.

i only paid $600 for the scope, and for that price, i'm pretty impressed with it. has the features i want and i can't tell any loss of light. image stays crisp in all zoom levels (2.5-16).

only thing left on the list to do is get the trigger toned down. its a 7, i'm thinking 3 will be good.

scope looks like it's mounted unusually far back... it lack eye-relief or something?

if it's going to be a working gun, instead of just a bench gun, don't make the trigger too light. crisp, yes.

eye relief according to the mfg is 4", I think it may be a little bit less than that, especially as you get past 12x. but the mounting has more to do with where i rest my cheek.

a long long time ago i scoped myself on an sks. self critiquing mistake you only make once

the only thing i have yet to figure is I read somewhere the tactical model has a resettable zero. maybe? i have it boresighted for one hundred yards, which moved both elev and wind up about 8. if i understand 'resettable zero' correctly, i should be able to leave the reticle there but get the knobs back to zero right?

kis2, when you set the eye relief, you want to have the scope on maximum zoom. I agree with the other posts that the scope is too far back. Get yourself set behind the rifle in the most comfortable, natural shooting position for you, then position the scope so that you have a a full field of view (on max zoom). Move the scope forward until the full FOV starts to collapse i.e. the bright circle will start to get smaller. You should mount the scope in that position i.e. right BEFORE the point where the FOV starts to collapse.

Exactly. IIRC, don't you pull the knobs out and rotate them back to zero?

And congratulations on the new rifle ... it seems that you've put together a well thought out system that will more than likely be very accurate. As time/money allows, you can make some really nice upgrades to that rifle to take it to another level. However, I'd put a few hundred rounds through it to get a good baseline.

Looks great! The Bushnell scopes are very nice, just get it zeroed and pull the knobs, set them at "0" My 3200 Elite tracks very well, always returning to my 100yrd zero.

be careful with the eye relief. there has already been 1 black eye already from a remington 700.

shot it today, didnt get a chance to put it on paper and really sight it in, to stinkin hot and really windy, so i quit after a couple shots, but now i can say i've shot it. kick isn't so bad at all, which is good, because it needs an excuse to be this heavy.

didn't get anyway near scoping myself. i dont know guys, was prone out there, got comfy with the rifle tight up against my shoulder, zoomed all the way to 16x and i dont think i'd want that scope any farther forward. maybe its just me and the way i position on it.

how hard should it be to get these knobs to pop out? i'm pulling on them what i think is pretty good but they don't seem to budge....

its a .308.

Nice looking rifle.

.308 doesn't have a lot of recoil and firing from such a heavy gun you could shoot it all day and not get sore.

How much did it cost to have the barrel cut and crowned?

in the over priced world of vegas, $90 to have it cut, crowned and blued. took about 5 days. good work though.

Wow, that's extremely similar to the rifle I'm building. Mine is a SPS Varmint in .308, which is almost the same as the police model. I plan on getting that exact same scope, too. So far I've only got the rifle and a Vortex Crossfire as an interim scope.

In my research on the Elite 6500 Tactical scope, you have to use a hex key to loosen screws on the turrets to adjust the zero on them. Only the non-tactical scopes have the turrets that you can pull out to change the zero.

ok, a thorough sighting in is planned for this saturday morning.

any recommendations on ammo? i'm assuming you'll say 'sight in with what you'll shoot' but what .308 ammo would you recommend? i can go through a box or two in a trip without a problem, so it'd be nice if it were affordable. however, target shooting is no fun when you cant hit anything.

prvi partizan any good per buck? remington core loks arent too much more.

200yd range trip

hey all,

so its been a little while and i've had some time to practice with it. today was its first time out to 200yds and using match prvi partizan ammo, it shot about a 1.5" group.

i couldn't be more pleased considering it was just me and a swivel bipod out there, no bags or anything! used a rough ballistics card, adjusted 7 clicks, works pretty good. i was surprised how well the prvi partizan did, for $14 a box!!

Hey, that looks like a 1.20" group (you measured edge to edge, always measure from center to center). Very nice shooting though.
