It's great to live in a gun loving state

I live in southern Georgia, & this is a testament to the fact that guns owned by law abiding citizens are not a problem. The attached picture is of a fund raising raffle ticket from our police department. Notice that of the three prizes, two are firearms, & one is an AR-15!! I thought this was a hoot! Not only not a local buyback, but a give-away. Our police know that guns aren't the problem, the criminals are. (PS - I didn't win)

 

The irony expressed in that next to last sentence says a lot. Too bad you didn't win though.

 

Is Georgia a Constitutional Carry state ?

 

Dog Soldier, not yet, just "shall issue". There's a bill in legislature now to make GA constitutional carry, but with just a short time left in this year's session, I don't think it will succeed.

 

Wyoming here. Most guns per capita in the nation.

No magazine restrictions No background checks or waiting periods on private sales. No permit required to carry concealed. Plenty of open carry; I have even seen people with ARs in Cheyenne (capitol city).

Wyoming was lowest per capita violent crime in the nation a few years ago (I think N. Dakota is now).

No Federal BGC if you have a Wyoming CCW. The violent crime ebbs an flows with the price of oil. The population rises and falls with workers.

 

Yes, but interestingly Wyoming was 50th in per capita violent crime when oil prices were *high* and there were more oil workers here.

 

Yes, But statistics are deceiving. Because we only have around 500,000 people in the state your numbers sound big. But the raw numbers are 16 murders per year. Many of these have occurred on our Reservations.

 

Sounds like an average weekend in Chicago.
This shows how the more strict gun control laws are, the more violent crime there is.

 

I'm grateful to also be in a mostly free state - all the more so due to the sharp 50/50 political divide in Wisconsin where the elections can go either way. Thankfully we have preemption to avoid the problems other states have at local levels. We barely got concealed carry not so long ago, and that was long overdue and one of the few impediments to gun rights I can name.

Machine guns, SBRs, supressors, open carry, concealed carry, no background checks for private purchase, etc.

 

Georgia is becoming more civilized every year. I hope your constitutional carry does pass so you can move closer to Arizona.

 

This is a gun friendly state although they could be a little friendlier on the price of a concealed carry permit. Raffles with guns as the prize are common although I don't remember one done by the local police I think I remember one or two sponsored by the sheriff's department. State fish and game used to do one at the county fair and may still do it but it's been a few years since I've attended that event.

I once quizzed a game warden about carrying a rifle while going with my grandson while he was bow hunting. I was going to be looking for coyotes. The game warden told me specifically "You can carry a gun anywhere in NM. I bow hunt and carry a 40 cal. pistol while doing it." Not exactly a true statement as there are some restrictions on carrying a firearm into establishments serving alcohol and a few other places but good enough for what i wanted to know.

 

In Missouri Constitutional carry went into effect 1/1 of this year. Earlier the Mo Congress passed stand your ground and Texas style castle doctrine laws where anyone in a place they are legally eligible to be can use deadly force to stop a felony.

When I heard the news of Constitutional carry I got a warm glow in my gut, "no nanny state here". Our House and Senate are both large majority Republican

 

I spent a few days in Wyoming last summer when my daughter and I were driving out to Utah. The most amazing state! Unfortunately, my folks are here in Massachusetts and I could never leave them. Otherwise, I think I would be living in Wyoming right now.

 

Not only are guns banned on college campuses in GA, so are pocket knives over 2".

Not what I call civilized.

 

Honest questions: If Wyoming is so great, then..

1. Why is it the least populous state?
2. Why does it lead the nation in suicides?

Seems like there are plenty of better gun-friendly states out there.

Speaking of those high-per-barrel oil prices, the influx of labor that comes with it, and the first winter they experience, explains why moving companies like Wyoming. When you're in Wyoming, you're in the high country, -50 f is not at all unusual in the winter, and I've worked in that. Then there's the wind. I've also been working when the reported wind chill was -138 f, and that's no typo. There's a reason why at one time you could buy a bumper sticker in Casper that read: Casper Wyoming, Cast Iron Kite Flying Capitol Of The World.

As for t'other, I'm sure that sociologists have all sorts of theories and explanations, but here's two that play well in the real world.
1. A large "Native American" population. (They're not really natives, they just moved in before the Europeans did) Look at Montana's suicide rate and the demographic for it for confirmation.
2. You move in to make the big bucks, but you can't afford to move out. Check the suicide rate by month, just a bit higher in the winter.

The real numbers are how many people "actually", die? This is less than most cities have in a week. Wyoming averages 100 suicides and 16 murders per year. Yes, when made into statistics our low population and no gun control becomes a football.
Wyoming is rated the most Conservative state and gun ownership the highest in the Nation. It is a political target. As for the Wind and low temps Casper is only one area. Many areas such as S.W. Wyoming has a very low Wind velocity average. Low oil and coal prices have caused an economic down turn. You can certainly move out. The State's population has dropped every year for the past eight years.
The Western Inter-Mtn States are the destination for many troubled people looking for an answer to life. They bring their problems with them. The last resort is end it all.
