Those things have "teeth" when the moving stair part meats the base plate. I'm bet the round got caught there and fired.

Title of piece: NC store emptied after bullet fired _ by escalator

    Bullets aren't gun related?

I got more of a kick out of what follows the small article:

    "PEOPLE WHO READ THIS...
    Also read these stories:
Lesbian's 'Extreme' Gang Rape Investigated in California"

Bullets and bondage, now we're getting somewhere.

Actually that story is kinda gun related too.

A woman was jumped by four men, taunted for being a lesbian, repeatedly raped and left naked outside an abandoned apartment building in the GUN FREE CITY of San Francisco.

The first rule of escalators is to always treat them is if they are loaded.

Better disarm the machines before they kill us all . . . what was that bozo doing opening a package of ammo in the mall, anyway? Makes me wonder, along with the four rules for gun safety, shouldn't there be one for ammunition handling?

Lesson learned: Always carry a caliber larger than .22 when riding an escalator.
