I've gone through nearly every thin carry gun...still looking.

My Son has a Colt Mustang in .380. Just like a little .45 auto.
Very small and a really nice gun. Look one over.

Thanks for the input, guys! I appreciate it.

A few things.

I won't be changing my grip. It is my natural hold that works with all my other guns and I don't plan on changing it now. There are enough guns out there where the slide catch doesn't get in the way.

Anyway, the LC9s is still on my short list at the moment. Grip angle is something I can work with and the Pro model does work out well.

As for the XDs, I saw something online that modifies the slide catch and pushes it away from my thumb. I'm going to do some research on that.

I'm going to give the Walther PPS M2 another look.

I'd also like to give the Smaller Colts a chance.....if I can find one that isn't too high priced.

I may give another P938 a go again.

If there was some epoxy that would adhere well to the XD's frame material, you could pretty easily build up a little shelf around the rear of the slide stop button for your thumb to rest without interfering with the button. But...I'm not sure of what it's made and how adhesives would play with it. If that was the only thing between me and something that I really would love....it likely would happen.

I do like the XDs 4.0 version. I'll have to see about figuring something out. If I can't,....it will be back to the drawing board.

I say go back to the SIG 938 and get over the price. It's a carry gun and you like it best after trying a lot of different guns... I think that's worth the cost of entry on something you carry to save your life (as opposed to a range gun). Anyway, you only buy it once.

Any of those guns will work. I'd say pick one and stay with it until you master it. I chose the G43 because it is the easiest to carry, but that is purely personal. My hand will conform to any gun I put in it. After that it is just a matter of learning to shoot it. Dry fire is your friend.

Bobson,....thanks. I've put a few on my gunbroker watch list.

Here's another related question for everyone.

Of the ones I listed, are there some you'd say are "best to go with" and some you'd "stay away from"?

If it were my gun, it would come from Glock/SIG/Ruger/Smith. I'm not saying there's something wrong with the others; I just trust these brands more, and don't see a reason to look elsewhere. Literally every handgun I could ever see myself wanting, I can get from one of these four companies.

Of the ones you named, I would go with the LC9s pro.

I actually like my LC9 pretty well, but I will trade it in for the LC9s pro whenever my friend at the LGS happens to get one in.

It is easily my favorite "pocket 9" of the ones I've tried.

You're really splitting hairs here. A lot on your list are great pistols. You just have to compromise.

Glock or S&W are my top recommendations. S&W Shield if you prefer external safety and extra mags (not sure if you get 2mags with the G43).

I agree that a CCW weapon is GOING to require compromise. I prefer a full size gun, currently the CZ75B Police is top of my list, but I can't comfortably conceal that weapon. I have been down the same road you are on and, believe me, it is a looooong road. I probably own 30 pistols that I planned to CCW and now most of them hang out in a safe.

I prefer pocket carry so I don't want a hammer. I prefer no external safety so I accept the long trigger pulls on the "pocket rockets". I like the shield and the XDS, especially for IWB carry. I am not a Glock fan. I really like the Colt Commander but the hammer rules it out for me. Wheel guns are too "fat". Seems you and I are on the same road.

If you like one except for the fact the last shot won't hold the slide back, I would go for that one and disable it. More than a few folks have done the same on various firearms just to ensure that it doesn't hold back when it is not empty due to hand position.

If the P938 is your favorite and you can afford it, get it. It's not that expensive and if it saves your life some day it'll be money well spent.

Concealed Carry is always a compromise. It seems you already answered your own question before you even made this thread. You said the only thing wrong with the Sig P938 is the price. I can understand that but pry open your wallet and buy the gun you are comfortable with.

My son's girlfriend went back and forth looking for a carry gun and finally broke down and bought the Sig P238 and has not regretted that decision for a second. DO IT!!!

I did the same search about 6 mo ago. My top choices in order of preference: Shield, LC9s, PPS M2, G43. If the trigger is the only problem with the Shield just get an Apex trigger enhancement kit. I know it sucks to spend $$ to make a factory gun shoot the way you like it-but IMHO the Shield is worth it.

Actually he mentioned it in his original post.
Oops. You are correct but it wasn't really given a chance in his original post. It is a really good feeling gun and from the most recent vids I have watched about it, it is light on muzzle flip and fairly accurate. And, I think it went nearly 3 rounds in a row without malfunction! May have been the ammo though.

As for the cost; in a relatively short time, you'll spend a great deal more on ammo than you will on the gun. Don't scrimp on a potential life savor and get the one you like and shoot best. Compromise is a given a good percentage of the time.....

Good comments on here. I have some thinking to do. I'll let you all know what I decide to do.

Taurus 709 Slim. :-/ No thanks
Why? Because it's a Taurus?
I'm not a Taurus fan, don't own any (the LC9s serves me wonderfully in this category) but that's one gun Taurus seems to have gotten right and it often...OFTEN... shames some reputable names during media comparisons in reliability and accuracy. I wouldn't hesitate to own one.

I have gone thru the gammit of thin carry guns as well....from the Glock to the Taurus to Bersa to Springfield to a couple revolvers to Walther.
Absolutely the best "for me" was the Walther PPS 9mm (classic or M1) with a hogue handall jr rubber grip sleeve....
For quality of a semi-auto, it was the best, especially being under $400....
Reliabilty, was hard to judge, except I've had 4 (going on 8 uears) with thousands of rounds collectively and no issues and 3 friends who have purchased them with no issues......
Accuracy has been outstanding....
Recoil is such that it shoots like a much larger gun, and I can shoot it all day at the range with no hand/wrist fatigue....
The trigger guard lever mag release eliminates inadvertent mag releases completely....I've never had one :)
Everyone who shoots mine wants one.

Best CCW

Just like a diet plan. No good if you don't use it. CCW equipment must be no more obtrusive than your cell or your wallet. 3.5 or 4 inch barrel & 1 inch width is doable. I like S&W Shield or Glock 43 but carry Colt 1903 most.
