Can someone please tell me what the difference is between a S&W 342 and a 342PD? How about a 340 and a 340PD? It looks to me like the only difference is color (and maybe the front sight). Am I right? Thanks for clarifying.

    342 is 38+p

    340 is .357 mag

342/340 is 'silver', with plain ramp front sight

342pd/340pd is black (titanium grey cylinder) w/red ramp front sight (also available with Hi-viz fiber optic front sight)

    Cylinder Flute Difference

There may be one other difference or it could be related to an engineering change. My 342PD has wider cylinder flutes than my 342. I sold the 342 after getting the 342PD; however, the cylinder flute difference was quite noticeable when the guns were side-by-side.
