J frame holster reccomendations?

I am fairly new to concealed carry. I have been carrying a Kahr CM .45 in an Alien Gear IWB.
I recently got a S&W .38 j frame 2" and was wondering what some of you guys use. Thanks in advance for any and all input.

 

I like the Galco combat master and simply rugged pancake.

 

Galco KingTuk or Galco Triton are good for iwb carry. If you like Alien Gear, their 3.0 series is available for a j frame.

 

I usually carry mine without a holster in vest pocket with nothing else in the pocket with it.

For paints pocket carry I use a DeSantis Super Fly. Stays put nicely and hides the profile of the gun well.

 

I have a DeSantis IWB SOF-TUCK for my two S&W J frames. I also have their SUPER FLY holster for pocket carry.

 

Thank y'all for your suggestions. I do like the Alien Gear that I've been wearing but these others will give me material to do research on. That is a very enjoyable task for me.

 

For a pocket holster take a look at the Bianchi 152. For OWB, Milt Sparks PMK. IWB, Bianchi 3S.

 

If I was buying another IWB I'd get a Vedder Kydex.

 

Most of the time my Model 49 rides in a front pocket in a cheap Uncle Mike’s holster. However, I also use a Don Hume JIT slide, as well as an Azula pancake holster for OWB carry

 

I like the DeSantis "Thumb Break Scabbard" holsters for my j-frames. However, two things: first, it makes a difference whether your S&W has a hammer, it's hammerless, or it has a shrouded hammer (a "humpback" model). And second, put a dot of plastic electrical tape over metal button on the inside of the thumb strap or it will wear a hole in the finish on your gun.
Someone right here on THR told me I could cover or replace that button with a plastic something or the other, but I can't see going to that much trouble. A "dot" cut from a roll of plastic electrical tape will last a couple of months of EDC. And seeing as how I'm a retired electrical worker, I have plastic electrical tape galore.
BTW, what I said about whether your S&W having a hammer, or if it's a "humpback" model with a shrouded hammer - the same DeSantis "Thumb Break Scabbard" will work great for either. The DeSantis website doesn't say that, but it will work.
I carry my j-frame (when that's what I'm carrying) at 5:00 o'clock under a loose shirt or coat if I'm in town. Around home, particularly when I'm working on the back part of our property, I still carry my j-frame at 5:00 o'clock, but sometimes it's concealed under a loose shirt or jacket, and sometimes it's not.

 

I really like my DeSantis softuck for a Smith 638.

 

If possible choose a few holsters to best mate your j-frame’s carryability with your wardrobe and carry preferences. The Mika Pocket is a great start and is not limited to front pants pocket use. Robert is a great guy whose products are well worth the money.

 

I carried a model 37 for a few years in a Mika pocket holster. GOOD holster.

 

Pocket carry in a Winter coat has one advantage, i.e., you can put your hand in your pocket and have the gun in hand if a threat is perceived. And in cold weather, putting one's hand in a coat pocket is a natural action that does not draw any attention.

I use this with my Smith & Wesson® M&P® BODYGUARD™ Crimson Trace® 38 Special (#BG38) SKU:10062 daily. It is far more comfortable than any Kydex holster I have ever tried. I carry AIWB or at 4 o'clock and the weapon is very secure.

 

Another vote for Mika pocket holsters. Superb quality, great guy.
