If any arms should be banned (not that I am for the banning of any) it should be HUNTING rifles. The constitution says for a well regulated militia right? That means that we don't have a right for hunting rifles, but we do for select fire rifles (M16's & M4's) with standard capacity (20 and 30 round mags). We should not be allowed "target" rifles, but "sniper" rifles should abound. Instead of big game rifles... M60's for everyone.

Well, already we do not have the right to hunt. A right is something that we possess without government permission. You have to get permission to hunt from the government in the form of a hunting license. If you hunt without that permission, they take away your gun, your ammo, your truck, and your hunting vest. They do that without due process. Due process is not necessary as hunting is not a right.

That is why it is so very important that the 2nd Amendment NOT be tied to hunting or sporting purposes. Because hunting is not a right, then bearing arms is not a right, just as driving is not a right, nor is getting married or operating a business.

Ever hear of the right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness? The 2A was put in place to protect the rights enumerated in the 1A. Likewise, the 1A covers the aspect of the 2A that deals with ownership of those arms. Those two amendments are like an oak tree that grew up in a barbed wire fence and grew around the wire so the wire runs through the tree.
 
The 2nd amendment means what it means. The only probably is that the Constitution is dead (it was killed a while ago).

Well then, that would mean that the .gov is not a legitimate government and instead is a occupying force.
 
Which means we have a civic duty to re establish a constitutional form of government. It also means that anyone who has taken an oath of enlistment is sworn to uphold said same.

But the best way to rid ourselves of the current regime is at the ballot box. We still have an election coming up, and the opportunity to do exactly that is within the reach of most americans over the age of 35. Must be born in this country, and not have a felony record is about the only requirements I can think of off of the top of my head.

So instead of simply talking about it, lets do something, like find a candidate who really fits the bill, and have him run on that platform. Lets take back America!

Rant mode off. Notice how enthusiastic everyone is. Don't all get riled up at once. Really, it's not as bad a job as you think. Comes with a house, a car, a helicopter, and a retreat. Nice underground bunker too. A plane you can use.
And a salary of 400 Gs, plus an expense account of 50 grand. VPs make about 202 Gs. Did I mention the house has a pool?

I am running for president. Keep your checkbooks and credit cards and cash handy while I go set-up a Presidential Exploratory Committee. I need a treasurer... who can cook books? ;)
 
I believe with the definition of militia being light infantry, that any weapons useful to any modern light infantry unit would be specifically covered by the 2A, including handguns, sniper rifles, true select fire assault rifles and squad support weapons, light anti tank weapons, heavy machine guns, mortars, light armor with attendant weaponry, and light support aircraft, usually of a rotary wing configuration. I can see requiring the air support being kept in a secure location, but requiring armor to be dispersed, and flight crews have rapid response vehicles.
Just a thought.

I disagree[If a hunting rifle can take down big game /deer, big horn sheep , buffalo,etc.etc it can be used for any pourpose.

More specifically what we should be doing is focusing our efforts on the small, local elections.

For example, I live in New York State, and not in New York City. Therefore, in state and national elections, my vote simply does not count. The math is very straight forward.

So what can I do? Pout and demand that things should be "fair?" No, what I can do is focus on the elections where I do have a voice. Town Executive? Get out and push for change, volunteer, stuff envelopes, go door to door if necessary. County level issues? Contact my representative with a call for action.

By effecting change at the local level, we can stack the deck for the state and national level. Most Presidential candidates have held office somewhere before they decide to run for President. Many State Senators have held local office before becoming Senators. Same thing for most Governors and Representatives.

We can make a difference, just not necessarily at the top and usually not right away.

Just my $0.02.

If you think punching bottons on a Diebold is the way to get things done, you're gonna be in for a surprise. Electronic voting is one of the scariest things out there. Since nobody knows the source code and they aren't talking, they can program the machines to slant any election any way they want. They could program it so that one in every five votes is cast for somebody else. In fact, thet's probably what really happens. I think I read somewhere that 10,000 voters, in Ohio maybe, reported seeing that they voted for Bush when they actually typed in Kerry. And that's just the ones that said something about it. There's forces at work that you, me, or anybody outside of a select few don't know and couldn't possibly comprehend. All I know about it is that something really stinks, but as far as how deep does the rabbit hole go, I've got no idea.
