Ok, why does it seem like everyone says John Moses Browning? Why not John Browning?

Did his mom call him John Moses? I know John Browning was most likely the best firearms designer of all time. And the 1911 may seem like it was inspired by god. But come on. He was just a man. A genus, for sure. But just a man.

I bet if he could see how he is revered, he would laugh.

I'm not sure. Personally, I refer to the man as "Browning." But then I think Mauser's first name was Paul, and I still refer to him as "Mauser." No disrespect meant to either Browning or Mauser. It's just how I talk.:)

Why are serial killers killers also usually referred to with their middle name?
Why is JFK usually referred to as John F Kennedy?
Or Robert E Lee?
I dont think it’s related, rather just because it’s the way it is.

The first time I recall hearing His name was when I was in the SF weapons course in '87. The word "genius" was also used. That was where I learned all about the BAR, the 1919 series MG's, the M2HB, the 1911A1, and the BHP. Even the 1897 and M12 shotguns in military "trench" versions made an appearance in that classroom and later on the range. My graduation present to myself was a BHP. Later on, I found out I had grown up with some of His other inventions in the house- the 1894, and a Remington model 17 (what a great dove gun when I was growing up- still have it, but my Ithaca 37 does most of that work nowadays). Yep, genius.

I like how you capitalized "His" in reference to JMB, FL-NC. ;)

I refer to Mosin as Sergei Ivanovich Mosin...

Darn - Someone beat me to John Wilkes Booth.
I bet if he could see how he is revered, he would laugh.

I bet if he were alive today he'd be saying - Gee , they're still building my designs a hundred years later ... I must have done something right!

If he were laughing it would be all the way to the bank.

Why on earth are we discussing this??! Why do we call him John Moses Browning? Because it was his name , perhaps? Sheesh.

Light hearted conversation is good for what ails you.:)

If my name were Demi Moses Human, I would do the parting of the sea, except to the winds. I would sit at the bench then hold my hands up, a cool wind would blow from the line to the target and then be still.
Or perhaps the plauge of locusts, just out to were the berm grass covers up the other targets. I really dislike weed whackers!

"R.O., let my people shoot!":D

We say John Moses Browning to remind other mortals that John Moses Browning was God's Gun Prophet on Earth. Look at the AK-47 trigger group and safety and tell me you don't see a strong resemblance to the Rem Model 8.

Is he related to John Cougar Mellencamp?

Oh , how I long for the days when he was just John Cougar!!! Stars And Stripes Forever!!! ..... or ... was that John Phillip Sousa? Ah yes - creator of the Sousa Phone , later ripped off by the infamous imitator Alexander Graham Bell.

What the heck - thread drift is an act of public service in this case.
