What's the deal with this gas port shutoff? How does one do it, and why would one do it? Sounds interesting for some reason.

question about the firing pin?

when I beat the hell out the retaining pin on my yugo to get it out I broke it.
the replacement retaining pin I got fit kinda loose. is this ok?

The way the bolt rests in the bolt carrier it will not come out when the pieces are properly assembled into the receiver.

The Yugoslavians SKS Model 59/66 have a gas shut off valve for the purpose of firing muzzle attached grenades. The valve (when shut) prevents the gas that normally cycles the action from doing so. If you shut the valve off and fire your weapon with normal ammunition the bolt will not cycle and will have to manually work the action. Special blank ammunition is used for firing grenades.

The Yugo is the only SKS with the gas shut off valve. No other SKS has this feature.

Besides, the grenade launcher would ruin the sexy lines of the Russian SKS-45! :neener:

Yes, the accuracy improves, a la a bolt-action rifle. I prefer to fire my reloads with the port shut off, as it keeps the brass from flying into the ether where I can never find it. No to mention prevents the brass from getting dinged up. And you don't have to clean the gas system.
