JP Sauer Revolver?

Went to a pawnshop, found a 6" blue revolver, no shroud, double action, made in Germany stamped on it. 199.00

So I thought this was something cool, like the sig sauer company. But looked the gun up in my Firearms catalog, and there is no such thing in the JP Sauer section.

Is this a cheap imitation or something? Oh yeah its in 38 special and overall seems like a well made gun.

Has an almost SmithWesson style cylinder release.

Anyone know anything about these?

They were imported here back in the 1970s. I never owned one, but they appeared to be of decent quality. Is this a target model with adjustable sights and maybe a ventilated rib?
I'd give $199 for one of those in good condition.

IIRC, JP Sauer is the Sauer in SIG-Sauer.
Many of their guns were sold under the Hawes name. My dad had one of those long ago and loved it. He had to sell it but found another couple years ago and loves it too.

If it's in good shape I'd probably go that high. But I'd offer them $150 first.

Here's the small scoop on these.

Sauer .38 caliber double action revolvers circa 1960-1985 and also licensed to other manufacturers, including Armi San Paulo. Most have a blue finish and walnut grips. Current values range from $125-$275,depending on condition.

Most of the Sauer revolvers were of the Single Action variety marketed under the Hawes name. They were medium quality guns.

I bought one of their colt ssa clones in 357 mag while stationed in west germany.good solid revolver.I think it was 140.00 at the rod & gun club in mainz.I shot it almost every weekend.no problems.
