JPFO Documentary about Racist Basis of Gun Control

Good info, and well put together. I've always liked JPFO. Like to see it on TV.

banning black people from owning guns will not change a thing. i have always said that what needs to be done is pass tough laws that deal directly with the use of a gun in a crime. if a criminal (or someone contemplating a crime) knows that by doing so, he will get the death penalty, they would at least have to think twice. then, it becomes premeditated. and not some whimpy lethal injection either. something that will scare them. hanging, electracution, or firing squad would be high on my list!

As a history student, i'm amazed that this is the first time I've ever heard of the Deacons for Defense

Your post makes no sense and you have clearly not given this as much thought as you think: ergo, making penalties tougher for use of a gun in a crime simply = criminals using another tool. Data has shown, when you focus on guns (the tool) you simply get an increase in using knives and such as they get less time for the same crime for using a different tool and so on. Crime is crime, and "gun crime" simply focuses on the tool used vs the person using the tool. If I person assaults me with a rock, I want them to do the exact same amount of time as if they had a gun.

Deacons for Defense-never heard of them before. I was always interested in the civil rights movement in high school (middle 60's)-just don't know how I missed them (Deacons for Defense).

Interesting that the Deacons for Defense are largely absent from the history books. More evidence, I think, of how gun control has it's roots in racism.

Everyone suffers from racist laws in general. Specific to this forum, we all suffer from race based gun restrictions.

Perhaps, they did not mention California's laws because many were reactions to the Black Panthers. Bay Area counties are the worst counties to this day.

The whole state suffers from requiring handgun purchasers to take a test before exercising a Constitutional right. Reminds me of former Southern requirements to pass a test to exercise the right to vote.

We need more Deacons for Defense to fight drug dealers and thieves. Unfortunately, the local establishment may investigate members and arrest them for the slightest firearm infractions.

Scary how many government entities treat people like victims, demonize anyone who demands their rights and enact laws to thwart self reliance.

The Second Amendment is there because the founders understood it is foolish to ever expect governments to have the people's interests at heart.

I've posted about the Deacons for Defense before on other threads but I can't find the thread right now.

The 14th Amendment (equal protection) was a direct result of antebellum Southern states passing laws restricting gun ownership among blacks and former slaves.

The video makes excellent points on gun rights.

And I hope this remains a gun rights thread. Don't let it become a race thread.

its kinda true

here in north carolina the law that requires us to have a purchasing permit to buy a handgun was to keep the blacks from owning guns

thankfully that law may soon go away

Thank you for posting the link. I'm taking a class called "Race & Ethnicity in the U.S." and my professor slipped the discriminatory phrase "gun nut" into a story the other day. Of course, I called her out on it, but I'm not sure if she "got it". If she mentions it next week, I might ask if I can show this video to the class.

I find that vid both moving and informative. That organization has many excellent videos. I wish they were better publicized.

To OP, thanks for posting!

Kind of Blued

Just bring it in, and ask, "May I show the class something on racism?" Preferably in front of the class so that she will have a hard time saying no.

"To OP, thanks for posting!"

Pass it around. Both pro and anti need to see that vid.

The Racist Roots of Gun Control

The historical record provides compelling evidence that racism underlies gun control laws -- and not in any subtle way. Throughout much of American history, gun control was openly stated as a method for keeping blacks and Hispanics "in their place," and to quiet the racial fears of whites. This paper is intended to provide a brief summary of this unholy alliance of gun control and racism, and to suggest that gun control laws should be regarded as "suspect ideas," analogous to the "suspect classifications" theory of discrimination already part of the American legal system.

I am a member of JPFO and respect lot of their work. Please don't call me a racist, but is it wrong for me to comment that a majority of the gun murders in this country are performed by blacks and in the black community?

The people that act on emotion and not logic and rationality would call you racist, the same people that would call me racist even if I throw a fact out there like this:

In 1997, 9% of the black population in the U.S. was under some form of correctional supervision compared to 2% of the white population and over 1% of other races.

But just for mentioning a fact, I might be called a racist, it's stupid.
