Just became an HK owner

I just picked up a police-trade USP .45. Nice gun, good shape, great price.
It's going head-to-head against my tried and true Glock 21 this weekend.

I've bought and sold off a Sig P220 and a Springfield Loaded 1911, but kept the Glock for the past 16 years, so we'll see if I keep the HK too.

Congrats on a fine weapon. I'd be interested in hearing about your head-to-head results. I used to own a bunch of other brand name guns as well - until I purchased my first HK. Happy shooting!

Thanks. The Sig was nice, but the 1911 ran like doo-doo. I'm not a big fan of the whole "break-in" period.

I'll also be waiting for a range report! You're talking about two totally different animals here. I can already tell you that the H&K is a more refined, better engineered pistol (subjective, I know, but c'mon now). However, it will be interesting to hear which one you end up shooting better with. You've had a Glock for 16 years, so you're obviously used to the extreme grip angle by now, and I'm sure you shoot it well. At the same time, the USP .45 is no slouch and I wouldn't be surprised if you can pick it up and shoot some impressive groups right off the bat. I'll be tuned in...

So, I finally got to the range (private ranch a few hours from where I live) and spent some time firing both my USP 45 and G21. 150 from the HK and 50 from the Glock, only b/c I've fired it so much over the years.

I'm still getting used to the HK trigger, but it fired very well and is more accurate than the Glock. I'm pleased with the purchase and will certainly keep the HK. The Glock is still my go-to gun, but that may change as I continue to shoot the HK.

Cool beans! I have both guns as well. The HK is a better gun for long distance shots--100 yards, etc, but they'll both make nice, raggedy holes closer than that.

CPShooter--I don't know if I agree with your assessment about HK being better engineered. While I am a huge fan of HK, if anything, they are over-engineered. I've detail stripped my USPs a few times, and I still can't do it without the book handy. The GLOCK on the other hand, needs 10 minutes and a punch. That's good engineering. <g>

I certainly didn't have an epiphany with the HK, but it is a nice gun.

I fired a rented .40 USP compact. I was impressed. It seemed less punishing than the Glock 22 I was shooting that day. Maybe less slide mass coming back at the shooter ? I think there is something to be said for HK, though I do not own one.
