I would appreciate any feedback from those of you that own/shoot this rifle with the 24” octagonal barrel!

My two Rossi carbine have been reliable, fun and relatively accurate. However mine are 20 inch barrels. Wood to metal fit leaves a bit to be desired. Strictly utilitarian but very serviceable.

I had a Rossi also with the 20" barrel, as was previously stated the wood to metal fit left something to be desired, however it was one of the older ones without the lawyer safety's, and the action was fairly smooth, and the trigger was right at 3.5-4#s and very crisp. Accuracy was fair to midland, and I sold it as I was looking into a 30-30 Marlin Cowboy with the octagon barrel. In fact I just got back into the .44Mag with the Henry Big Boy carbine.

Can't speak about your 44 w/ long octagonal barrel, but I have a Rossi .45LC w/ a 16" barrel and a Rossi .357 mag w/ a 20" barrel. Haven't shot the 357 much but the 45 is the most fun rifle I have to play with.

I have three rossi 92s. The 24inch 44mag will pull out the mag tube if you shoot it with more than seven mag loads in the tube.
The brass 24inch45 colt never does that but all bullets must be crimped well to not push in.
My favorite and constant companion is my .357 16inch.
Bought and sold several others.
Get out and shoot it.

I do not own one but have ordered a couple for friends. My first take is the same as HPJeeps. Wood to metal fit could use some work, but the guns function very well. I have yet hear about either friend having any problem them. If they're happy, I'm happy.

Congrats on the new 44 rifle. I have a CVA hunter. I love it. Especially the trigger. It's light. I checked it on my pull gauge. 1.75 lbs.

I have two CVA Scouts in 45-70, and two CVA Wolf .50 ML’s. All four have about a 2lb trigger pull and are very accurate

I love the hell out of mine...

I wanted a carbine, but with the octagon barrel, so I got the rifle, and had it cut to 17"...

One nice thing about the Rossi 44 Mag is the faster twist stabilizes 300gr bullets better the many Marlins slow 1 in 38".
I have a 24" 45 Colt and a 16" 44 Mag both are older pre safety and both shoot great.

You've probably read that Rossi 92's have a reputation for tossing empties a pretty good distance.

An easy mod to fix this, and also lighten up working the action at the same time, is to replace the ejector spring with a lighter one.

The Century C-530 spring, available at your local hardware store or on Ebay, works perfectly and drops them at your feet.

Good luck with your new rifle!

thanks for the tip!

I have a Rossi with the 24" octagonal barrel in .44 mag. The weight of the rifle soaks up the recoil quite well from the fairly hot loaded ammo I feed it. I shoot it in metallic silhouette at 100 and 200 yards and the accuracy is reasonably good considering it is a lever gun. I have a Lyman globe front sight and a Marbles tang sight that lets me adjust for the different distances silhouette is shot at. The trigger pull is a bit heavy and the action is still a little rough but has smoothed up considerably since I've been shooting it. As far as ejection of the spent casing, my rifle ejects straight up and I can catch the empty with my hand. These rifles aren't $1k plus guns but they are quite functional even if the fit and finish is not collector quality. It is a shooting rifle, not a pretty display piece to hang over the mantel.

I had the shorter barrel in 44mag. Really liked it, stabling my heavier bunker well. Traded for some reason, don’t recall at this time. Need another one.
