Oct 1940 ended with 78306
Nov 1940 ended with 90177

So it would look to be a November 1940 manufacture receiver. That based on the serial number you posted. Heck, just shoot it and enjoy it. :)

Thanks. That's what I found as well, but I didn't know how reliable my source was. Thanks for confirming. I don't plan to do anything except rub the wood with tung oil and shoot it. Kinda would've preferred GI wood, but it's still a very cool rifle.
 
Shoot it and enjoy it. The aftermarket wood is just fine. Tong or boiled linseed oil will do fine. I also like and use Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil.
