Just bought a HK93! What optics?

Doctorhubert has a thread on here about his ACOG equipped HK93, I think the impressions were favorable. Try a search. I expect a full review once you get it! How much did it set you back?

I like the irons. Try them for a while first.

Yes, it all depends on what you want to do. Any scope is gonna be rather high, so you will have cheekweld issues. If you want a dot, the ultra-low mounts are cool, but otherwise...

And post a photo so we can all be even /more/ jealous.

I have seen the adds in Shotgun News for the German scopes with the correct mounts. Running around $400 or less I think. Military surplus, carrying case, whole 9 yards.

I saw some at a show last weekend. Looked good, great german glass, some wear but not abused.

I would look at them. Even if you don't love the scope you can put it on something else and use the claw mount on your HK.

ditto the Hensoldt with factory mounts advice. Only way to go IMHO, I use this set up on my collapsabile stock HK93 from 18years ago , which I am dusting off now after my Colt HBAR let me down in a Lewis Awerbuck carbine class!

Eotech

Even works semi obstructed or with a hole in it!

I like the EOTECH myself (but I don't own one). I've got the HK-43 (imported by SACO of Maine) and that has, yep, factory irons and that's it.

I opted for the Bushnell Holosight, which as far as I could determine, was basically the same as the Eotech sans the roll bar. Since I did not plan to mistreat my HK93, I thought the roll bar wouldn't be necessary. So I bought a Holosight for about $215 over a year ago from Natchez (read Heads Up, below):

I like mine real well. It's a bit high, but comfortable to shoot, and the ARMS claw mount allows use of the iron sights as well.

HEADS UP:

Natchez presently has the very same, brand new Bushnell Holosight on sale for $169.95! It's on page 20 of their April-May sales flyer, Cat. No. F45BH510022.

Enjoy and safe shooting!

Alex

CORRECTION -

As I just realized after reading a post reply to the "Super Affordable Holosight" thread, the Holosight that is on sale has only the dot, and not the dot and circle. The one I have is the standard, with the Dot and Circle.

I put a Leopold Var X III 3.5 x 10 50-mm on my Cetme...its fun to ring those 500-yd gongs, shot after shot!:p

What ranges are the Holos good for?

Greg congradulation on your purchase. Accuracy on stock HK93 isn't all that great, especially with stock trigger. I'd get williams trigger work for $60 to lighten the trigger first.

I personally think ACOGson HK rifles sit too high. Not to mention they are expensive.
some better options:

Kac RAS forearm with Aimpoint attatchment ($800).
G3 Hensoldt surplus X4 scope with mount ($400, good deal).
I now use Zeiss Diavari DA 1.5X6, the best, but very expensive.($1200-1500)

If I were you, I'd stick with iron sights, and with money you saved, keep saving to buy HK91 (which I like better than HK93) and put less expensive Hensoldt X4

I agree totally with DrHumbert , except: I'm more and more inclined to think the HK93 a better system than AR15 and certainly much better than a HK91 for CQB! Thats with 20 years of USE, sonny for the HK93 and 35 years of the AR. O yes 25 years of using an HK91 on which I use the Zeiss optic Dr. Humbert reccommended. The 4X Hendsoldt on factory lever mount is the hot set up on the 93, though. The collapsabile butt stock on the 93 in the middle position with the Trigicon front sight is great under 50 yards with out the AR sight plane problems. Big deal the 93 is heavy, you aren't gonna hump it are you?(BTW I humped mine all over Sierra's and Big Sur for 15 years!):D  ;)

I've just about played with every optic for HK93.

I know you are itching to accessorize your HK93 (you will also need a cheek rest), but I think Iron sight is more than enough for rifle designed to shoot at 100-300 yards. Plus optics make already heavy HK93 even heavier.

My conclusion was that either use iron sight or get Hensoldt X4.

I don't know what's the hype about ACOG is, especially the X4 models. Eye relief sucked on those, even compared to much cheaper Hensoldt.

I think any magnified optic over 1X to 2X is somewhat of an overkill on .223 auto loader. I ditched ACOG on my AR, and uses Aimpoint now.

For the money save on HK93 optic, get sexy ambi FBI lower for your HK93 ($600 from Gordon Miller)

$600 for a trigger group? Man, that's more than what I paid for my HK-43.

Flapper mag release is installed on to a receiver, not on to a trigger group.

In order to install factory HK factory mag release, you have to do milling works onto the receiver in proper way in accordance with NFA rule.

It also requires refinishing, which is why people seldom do this to HK9X rifles unless they are doing a full Class III rifle conversion. One day I am going to get a proper G3K conversion on HK91 with flapper mag release and meat grinder A3 metal stock. I like pain.
