i just bought a 270 and i'm getting ready to buy my reloading equipment and i was wondering what the difference between the plain 270 bullets and the 6.8 spc bullets?
i would like to use this rifle for everything and i was curious if anyone had any experience with the 90 grain Sierra Varminter, the 140 grain gameking hpbt, and the 135 grain matchking. what is a good powder to start with?
i would be more than happy to listen to any advice that all of you experienced reloader/shooters have. thank you all

The 6.8spc gullet is an entirely different bullet for a specific cartridge. Stick with normal .277" dia bullets around 130 gr for your Ruger 270 and you will very happy with the loads you produce.

The difference between bullets for the 6.8 SPC and any other 270 cartrage is bullet construction so they fragment at lower velocities. They are also lighter, but they are infact .277" bullets.

I've used lots of 130g gamekings and a couple of hundred 140g gamekings and a box or two of of the match kings. I don't think I've ever had a complaint about any Sierra bullet.

I've mostly used IMR 4831 and some IMR 4350.
