Just bought a Stoeger Uplander..Couple Questions:

I just picked up a Stoeger SXS 12g Uplander Supreme.

Question 1.

When I break the action, the safety is automatically engaged. To disengage the safety..obviously you just slide the lever forward.

However, the safety switch also slides left and right. What does this function do? I thought it was a barrel selector, but each setting allows me to pull the single trigger two times...thus firing each barrel back to back. What is the point of sliding this lever to the left or to the right?

Question 2. The barrels are threaded to accept chokes. It only came with one set of chokes screwed in...If I want to buy additional chokes, do I just buy Winchester chokes? Is there a certain kind of winchester choke?? or will any suffice??

Where is the best online store to purchase chokes from?


Question 3: Is it safe to leave this gun loaded for home defense? Or will the hammer springs wear out?? If hammer springs wear out is this an inexpensive fix at the gunsmith?

The right barrel should have more open choke as it is the one that goes off first if you do not use barrel selector on SST (on DT trigger gun front trigger fires right barrel). When longer shot is needed it is nice to be able to choose left barrel for first shot. It appears that your gun has mechanical SST which is nice because the gun will still go off if cartridge in right barrel is a dud and you pull trigger second time.

Question#1 sliding the safety from left to right allows you to select which barrel to discharge first...left or right. This allows you to select different chokes for different situations.
Question #2 www.midwestgunworks.com has a wide selection of Stoeger choke tubes. I can't remember which brand of tubes fit the Stoeger.
Question#3 IMHO you can if you desire leave the gun loaded without damagining the springs...it is not a hard job to change springs on the Stoeger side by sides...a gunsmith should not charge a lot to do this.
I have a Stoeger coachgun I have used in cowboy action shooting for 12 years and have kept it loaded in between for HD and I have had zero problems.

Got mine at a Hock SHop. I was looking for a 20 ga double (wife and I have bad sholders) and we wanted a lighter, low recoiling SxS.
Unfortunatelly mine only came with one bbl and I suspect that the 28ga barrel was left at home or somthing. I'd really like to have had it to play with!
WHo knows mine might have also been a 12ga/20ga set and the same story goes for the other bbl???
ANyway I parrerened the 20ga @ 13 paces (MY indoor range) and I got a good cemter mass colum with some fly shot scattered anout 10" around the center mass hole in the target.
That was with the only shot I could find 2 3/4 7 1/2's. Not the optimum for HD!
I finally found some bigger Remington Phesant Loads #4 1 oz 2 3/4"
I gotta retest these soon! I think that in lieu of Buckshot (Obama unavailable right now!) . These Phesant loads ought to slow if not stop any bad guys and protect home and family!
Your 12 ga ought to be a powerhouse by comparison!
These Stogers are really well made and fitted. Parts look to be tight toleranced and made of good steels.
The wood and it's fit are way better than the low price tag (when New) would indicate!
I only paid $200 for mine so I am totally happy with the purchase and especally the shotgun.! Mine is a double trigger version.

Another question...Is it possible to fit two adjustable choke tubes on a double barrel?
If so, which brand would fit the stoeger?

Not, not enough room between the barrels.

And why would you want to anyway??

Choke tubes give you every option there is in a different choke for each barrel.
A double gun with a selector or double triggers give you the option of deciding which choke to use first instantly.

And it only takes a few seconds to screw one out and another one in if conditions change while hunting.

Yes, the Stoegers with choke tubes have both barrels threaded for the tubes, and you would be wise not to shoot it without choke tubes in both barrels.

The selector switch controls which barrel fires first. The other barrel will then fire second. This can be valuable when hunting, as, if you have different chokes installed, it lets you pick the right one for a given shot.

Springs wear out from cycling, not from sitting.

Accu-chokes are what you need. They fit mossbergs and Stoegers, and possibly others too.

I guess since Stoeger is part of beretta holding, beretta or benelli chokes should fit. but I am not sure.
