An older man in our church passed away not long ago leaving his widow with a couple of nice guns that she's trying to liquidate. I'm trying to help her sell them and may buy myself but that's up in the air at the moment. The one of interest to me is a Colt "Model of 1911 US Army" with a serial number that internet information puts at a date of 1918. It's not marked US Property and has a very nice bluing job, but it's obviously been reblued, so doesn't really have top value as a collector piece. Still it's tight, stiff springs and shoots great. Put about 100rds of ball through it just to check function--not one hiccup. The grips appear original, pretty worn from almost 100 years of handling but I don't think it's been shot much. Since it's older and without all the desirable modern features like visible sights, front and back strap checkering, decent side cuts for press checking, it's not more than an occasional shooter. I'm thinking all things considered this should be about a $500 gun. Any thoughts or observations on this would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

PM me, I'll be happy to give you $500 for it just based on your description and I'll pay the overnight shipping to my FFL.

On the other hand, if you're trying to get a nice 1918 Colt 1911 in original condition except for maybe being refinished, for $500 from a widow in your church you'll probably go to hell for screwing her out of it.

Thanks WC. I actually put it up on Armslist for $1000 but haven't gotten any interest. That's why I was beginning to wonder if it might fit better in the $500 price range. I want to get this lady the money it's worth, but just don't have a lot of frame of reference since I shoot a lot but mostly with polymer pistols or current production revolvers.

If your ad is the one I'm thinking of, listed at $1,500, it's not going to get much action at that price. I'd lower it to $900 and see what you get. Not to be critical, but just a suggestion that you change the caliber to 45 ACP as it's currently listed as 45 Colt (which, if someone is searching for a 1911 by caliber, will exclude your pistol from coming up as 45 Colt is the old rimmed revolver cartridge).

Again, not trying to be critical but if that is your ad you might consider those things. Also, you might consider posting it for sale over on the 1911 Addicts page. They have a firearms for sale section of their forum and those are all dedicated 1911 guys.

If that's not the listing, I might be missing it or you might want to change your search terms as I did a search for Colt 1911 in PA and this is what seemed to come up as the most likely pistol (?).

Scrubbed of USP by the troop who misappropriated government property and reblued by whoever, it is not very valuable. Probably still more than $500 in today's overheated market.

Definitely worth more than $500 just because it is an original Colt 1911. I would think somewhere in the $800 to $1000 range would be a decent price.

I looked at the pictures in the Armslist ad, hard to tell much other than someone polished it hard and blued it. Still, it's a 1918 Colt that all in one piece and shoots which makes it far more valuable than a RIA. If it has all it's original parts, it's a bonus.

Pictures would help..
Any thoughts or observations on this would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

Your pictures suck to put it bluntly.. (If its your ad where a man is holding the gun) Try taking the best you can with a blank background and prop the gun on something instead of your hand.
Anyone looking for a 1918 will want to see all the markings inside and out.
I wouldn't settle for 500, but if you want top dollar you need to provide more info.

I clicked on your link but all I got was an error message and no pics. Can you download them here on THR?

Give up on Armslist and post it for sale here. Pretty sure others are like me and appreciate those guns without all the 'improvements' that were added later. I bet you find a buyer pretty quick. With some decent pictures I may be interested.........................for WC145s $500 + an extra $25 :p

(unless you need an AR, then we might make a deal.)

Ok, pics posted here per request. Let me know if you have questions. Also, this is being sold by a lady who had no interest in or use for ARs but thanks for the suggestion.
