Any suggestions on what my first purchase should be? So far "Im thinking a MN 91/30 or an M44.

Also, anyone know where there is the example letter to send to vendors? I know I saw one somewhere, can't remember where now. :scrutiny:

Now to put in some overtime to pay for all this

All i have ever done is put an ink-signed copy into an envelope and send it out. They know what to do with it when they get it. I suppose you could send them something and ask for their mailer or soemthing but, they always seem to send it out anyways.

Yeah, I just stuck the blue ink signed license in an envelope and sent it like that.

I would vote for a K-31 while ammo is still in stock at AIM or SOG.

DEALER ADDRESS HERE

Dear Sir or Madam:
Enclosed please find a signed copy of my Type 03, Curio and Relics, Federal Firearms License. Please keep this on file so that we may do business in the future. Also, if you would send me a copy of your latest catalogue or sales flyer, and place me on the mailing list for the same, I would be most appreciative.

Sincerely,
NAME
Curio and Relic Firearms Collector

A Nagant is a good purchase...also consider an SKS. AIM has unissued ones for $150 and they're *excellent*. I've got several of them under my bed now and one that I shoot everytime I go to the range. :) Also keep you eyes peeled for a good Colt Sistema (full size 1911 made in Argentina on Colt equipment)...you can find some very nice ones in the $400-$500 range.

Good luck with it and welcome to the poor house!

As we may be poor broke bastards but it's comforting to know we could arm a small south american country.:p :p :p

SKS's MN's and CZ52's by the crate. :what: It's great to be a "Collector"

Thanks Cacique, that's what I was looking for.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, SKS could be fun :D I"ll have to see what I have when payday rolls around

I would add your address and email to that letter - the more info you give them the better. Then the catalogs and email alerts will begin! :)

I started with a 91/30 and a M44 from Aztec, and now bought a K-31 and a Yugo SKS from AIM.

I hope you like cosmoline! :D

RavenVT100, it costs $30 for 3 years, and you get big discounts from places like Midway and Brownell's. Go to www.cruffler.com for all the info you need including the forms.

This site has some good info on exactly how to obtain the C&R:

This site has a good amount of traffic discussing C&R:

The time to get your license depends on the state you live in. The people who process the apps are assigned areas and some are faster than others. Mine took about 50 days.

You won't be sorry if you get an SKS...ammo is very cheap (approx $85-$90/1000 at a gunshow) and they are extremely accurate with very little recoil.

If you thought you liked the smell of Hoppe's wait till you get your hands on some nice gooey Cosmoline. I've used a large bucket of kerosene and soaked all the parts and they wipe very clean after you soak 'em for a little while. Cosmoline on a gun is like sand after a day at the beach...you're gonna find it in places you never expected ;) so watch for all the nooks and crannies.

As everyone will tell you - do NOT sign your original license. When you get it, make thousands of copies (unsigned) and put your unsigned original in a very safe place. You CAN sign the COPIES in red/blue/green/purple ink...avoid black. The two sites above that I listed have some excellent C&R vendors that you can send your 03 FFL to. The discounts at Brownells and Midway are excellent (sometimes 30%) and you'll pay for the cost of the license VERY quickly.

Good luck & if you have any additional question feel free to PM me.

Just a small suggestion

Start by getting one mauser, one enfield, and one mosin action. That will tell you which way your collection will go. Huge amount of deals out there right now. Which reminds me, I need to call monday and see where my new licence is.

Get the 91/30 first , then the M44, then an M38, then an M91, then an M39, then.....oh, and by the way:

I've been collecting them for one year, have 6, and don't even have my C&R yet!:what:
