Today I went and picked up my Dan Wesson Commander Classic Bobtail, which I ordered from Bud's Gun Shop. I ordered it at about 4:00pm on Sunday, March 25th, and picked it up today (April 2nd) at 1:00pm. That's a total of 7 days and 21 hours from start to finish. And here I was just hoping it was going to be here by the 10th or so... I was surprised that my FFL even called me today, since it was just this morning that I got the e-mail from Bud's telling me it was shipping, but I'm not going to complain.
I cleaned it and took it out to the range, intending to put 150 rounds through it. During the second magazine I noticed that the rear sight was loose, loose enough that it was sliding around quite a bit, and since I didn't have an Allen wrench with me I took it off. Since I couldn't really aim the gun like that, I only put 55 rounds through it, but every one fed perfectly, even the hollowpoints, and the gun felt great in my hand. I put the sight back on when I got home, and I'll put another 100 rounds through it tomorrow while I sight it in. In hindsight I should have checked to see if it was tight when I cleaned it beforehand, but I didn't think about it. I'm not really used to sights that can come loose, actually, all my other guns have fixed sights. But if a loose sight is the only thing I can find "wrong" with this gun, I won't complain too much. I didn't even realize that they're night sights until after I'd ordered it, so it's kind of like I got them for free, right?
This is the first 1911 and/or .45 I've bought, and the first bobtailed pistol I've ever shot. I'm incredibly impressed with this pistol so far, it's much nicer than my dad's Auto-Ordnance 1911 (of course), and it feels as every bit as good as any Colt or Kimber I've used. The attention to detail is very apparent. I intend to use this as a carry pistol once it gets broken-in (and once I get a couple holsters), and I think it will fit the bill perfectly.
This is also the first new gun I've bought online, although I've bought several used ones, all long guns. I was impressed with the speed and efficiency that Bud's handled my order, and I appreciated getting an e-mail each time my order progressed, even if they came a little late. I'm certain that they'll be getting more of my business, especially since my FFL is on file with them.
I'm not going to post pics, because it looks like every other DW CBOB, except the trigger seems lighter in color than in photos. I just wanted to post and say how pleased I am with my experience with Bud's Gun Shop, and how excited I am about my new Dan Wesson pistol. I bought it based on recommendations that I've read here and on other sites, and I bought it from Bud's because they had the best price and came highly recommended as well. I'd never seen or handled a Dan Wesson pistol before, and the closest dealer in my state is 6 hours away. I was nervous about buying a gun sight unseen like that, especially one that is at the limit of what I can afford, but I'm very, very pleased with the experience.
