South is closer to work, home is about equidistant. I often take gun n00bs to the range and I find the north location to be much friendlier for accustomizing folks to the sights, sounds, and smell of an active indoor range. The south place hasn't been the same since they refurbished it, the sound deadening wasn't ever restored to the same level. I haven't shot there in over a year, perhaps that's changed.
The layout of the north range also gives a great deal more space behind the stalls for conferring with buddies or just taking a break. Also a great deal easier for the range officer to keep an eye on folks.
Of course I'm guilty of shooting the mule (Rem 700BDL SS in .300RUM) next to people shooting .22 target pistols at the south range. Lots of
from casual shooters after that thing goes off inside. I do not miss shooting it.Definitely need to have an Austin range day.
