Just picked up my new CZ SP-01 Phantom today

Just picked up my new CZ SP-01 Phantom today. I like so far, can't wait to shoot it. Changed out the back strap. Anything I should know about this beauty?

No problems to date with the few that have reached buyers.
At least that WE at the forum know about.

The guns have been out in early form around the world for
over a year, and going strong.

I do know that the Phantom is much lighter and less expensive ( retail) than the regular SP-01.

The Phantom is my next CZ gun after I obtain a P-07 Duty in April.

Hopefully that is.

No concrete time frame when they will arrive.

Polymer framed. interchanging back-strap.
Too bad it doesn't have the smooth action OMEGA
fire control system in it like the P-07 duty. But some
guys will have them smoothed up by Angus or other smiths.

Shoot the gun first and dry fire it (using snap caps). You will find significant improvement quickly with use. Then, if still not happy the fixes are there for you.

The Phantom is a great gun - enjoy it. I have both the Phantom and the regular SP-01 and I think I prefer the Phantom by a small amount. They shoot about the same, which is a bit odd given the greater weight of the standard SP-01. Addiction to CZs is a dangerous, expensive thing...........

Brainfart. My apologies.

However, even without a grip panel to take off, you can still get to the mag-brake with a flathead screwdriver through the magwell.

What is bad about this and how do I change mine? I just got a Mec-Gar 19rd mag.

Also what is the best defensive ammo and grain for these Phantoms?

it's a preference..... but in sport shooting, some disciplines are good to have drop free, while some are not.

I use all my pistols for IDPA competition. In a timed course of fire with reloads on the clock a slow reload can cost you big time. In the five IDPA national championships I have participated in I have found that if I have to add one second onto my reload time it can very easily drop me down 10 to 15 places for the stage.

In IDPA competition the 19rd mags that come from the factory are not legal because they are too long to fit in the "IDPA box". So although my factory long mags drop free I can't use them. Unfortunately none of the MecGar mags I have for my other guns will drop free from the Phantom, although they do indeed drop free from my other pistols.

As far as my gun is concerned I have found no way to really fix the problem. The external dimensions on the MecGar mags are just larger than the factory ones. The fatter mags just stick in the relatively narrower mag well.

If you would please do me a favor and test your factory mags then your MecGar to see if you have the same issue. I'm curious to see if mine is a fluke. However, there has been another guy on the CZ forum that has reported the same results as I.

I prefer 124gr ammo in all my CZ's. I have found a noticeable increase in accuracy over 115 gr. Some people have reported reliability issues with 147gr ammo due to the tighter chamber dimensions on the CZ but I personally haven't experienced that.

My carry load is Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P.
