Just tried the Savage accutrigger

Had a chance to put a few rounds through a Savage 10fp w/ their new accutrigger. First impession was that the trigger felt ALOT like shooting a Glock. All and all tho, the trigger pull was a little on the heavy side, but was crisp & consistent. By the end of the 10 rounds I shot, I had gotten use to it & actually started to like it. I wonder now how easy it really is to adjust that trigger pull.
It's got me wondering if I'd like that trigger long term & if I'm ready to invest in one for myself....

Adjusting it? About as easy as asjusting a throttle screw on a carb.

They give you a little thumb-tool. You take the action out of the stock, turn a little screw on the back of the trigger group. Done.

My 12FV had it set at it's lowest from the factory. Supposedly a 1.5lb pull. My scale read 1.77 pounds (which is actually preferable to 1.5 to me). It's very light, very crisp. Once I got used to the "glock" safety thingie in the middle, I actually think it's a great trigger. Probably the best thing to happen to cheap bolt guns ever, IMHO. Now the bar is set and hopefully all the factories will start paying attention to the demand for a good, adjustable trigger out of the box.

Yep... just turning one screw is all it takes to adjust them. Did it in the shop the other day to a guy that said he wasn't impressed with the new trigger because he could adjust the old trigger down to better than the new trigger just by adjusting it. Took the stock off, dropped the pull to the lightest setting, and now the guy was impressed.

I think it would take some getting used to, and I'll keep my tweaked Ruger and Winchester triggers thank you very much. But for what it is, it is definately an improvement over the old Savage trigger. When the lighter rifles get the new trigger, I'll probably pick up a couple of them in oddball chamberings.

my question is who's going to be the 1st one to try to lighten that trigger less than the 1.5#?

That trigger can be set even further down, but it might not hold. The idea of the new system is not really to make a very light trigger, it is to provide a safety device if a light trigger fails to hold. In operation, it is not at all like the Glock trigger; it is more like the half-cock notch on an older Winchester hammer gun, or a 1911 type pistol. If the full cock is too light and lets go with the finger off the trigger, the half cock notch will catch the hammer before an accidental discharge. The Savage is the same way, except what catches the sear is the auxiliary trigger rather than a half-cock notch.

I got to try one myself the other day and it was very nice. When the trigger broke it surprised me. I'm used to a heavier Military type trigger.

I tried pressing the trigger on the side to see if the weapon would fire. The trigger did move rearward slightly but then stopped. In order to fire the rifle I had to work the bolt to reset the trigger.

I'm definitely considering getting one now.

that's the only thing that the article didn't really cover, tripping the trigger, but not the Accu-saftey

yeah, I did not expect that to happen when I first got mine. I kinda figured it to be like a glock saftey, that the trigger would not move at all... No big deal though, you just have to lift the bolt, then drop it again to reset the trigger...
