There is a lot to be known besides a bare picture.
I have always thought rating a muzzleloader for smokeless powder was a bad idea and can't help but think that was a factor here.

I've seen 4 Savage MLs do that. In every case it was user error that cause the problem.

I've seen 4 threads with that same picture. IIRC the user thought he could substitute another brand of smokeless powder for the load the manufacturer listed (as you can with many types of black powder substitutes). The end result is what you see.
