K frame grips

They look oddly assymetrical, something I never noticed until I tried taking this pic!!

But I'm assuming that's intentional as they fit my hand very nicely.

Thank you very much for taking the time to take that photo.:cool:

They look to be perfect for me. Currently I have the stock target grips on my model 19 and model 17. They bell out too much at the bottom. I had Pachmayr “gripper” grips on them and they are okay but there is just something about them that I just can’t explain in regards to their shape. I just don’t like them.
I considered the grips that @Riomouse911 & @velocette & @e rex have or discussed but I just don’t care for finger grooves. Not that they wouldn’t fit me, but I don’t want to waste more money on grips that don’t work for me.
Those Ropers look like just the ticket. Thank you. I think I will order a set and try them out. :D

Just for kicks I went in search of information on Coke bottle versus Roper grips and I found this video on YouTube.

I took 2 screenshots from this video and added wording to show the difference between the N and K frame original S&W “Coke bottle grips”. As you can see the swell that gave the Coke bottle grips their name really isn’t all that pronounced. At least it’s not as pronounced as I thought they might be.

It appears they have a slight Coke bottle shape. Also the left panel appears to be skimmed at the top to accommodate speed loaders.
I am ordering a set of the walnut Ropers today. Thank you again for that photo.

I tried the Pachmayr Presentation grips, thought they were too big on my S&W 65. Tried their Gripper model and it feels right and shoots well.

I am tempted by some of the Thai grips though. Rubber is nice, but nothing looks as good as a set of nicely grained wood grips.

tried them all. Pachmayr Gripper grips feel right and let me shoot like a laser beam. I even like the way they look. Yeah, wood looks nice, but rubber feels better to me and lets me put them where I want to.

Oddly enough I recently did some contouring to the pistol grip of a rifle stock to make it fit my grip better, and after I took the pic above of the Roper grips on my S&W 10-5, where I described them as "asymmetrical", I realized that the asymmetry of the grips was the same as the resulting contour of the rifle stock pistol grip that I ended up being happy with: ie deeper on the right than on the left. It seems that's the contour needed to fit a right-handed grip on the pistol grip of that rifle stock. And so my conclusion is that contour is the right contour for pistol grips as well, but its corrollary might be a caveat that the Roper grips aren't appropriate for a left-handed shooter. Though that's just me guessing; I don't really know for sure.

I use the Packmeyer Signature grips, or another smooth grip. I can not use finger grove grips, I have big hands, none of the groves fit and I never have liked the cabbage shredder Smith factory grips.

I got an email from Altamont. There will be a 6-9 week delay in getting my grips. I called to see if I could change to a different wood or even maybe switch to the Coke Bottle Grips, but the delay is the same. The gent that I talked to said that they only keep blanks in stock and make grips from the blanks when an order is placed. I guess it’s like everything else these days. Things are slow and if they aren’t slow they’re weird. So, in 6-9 weeks I will get my walnut Ropers.

For S&W K and L square butt framed revolvers I think the old finger grooved combats are a good choice. The grips are comfortable and have a better fit than the Thai grips, they are currently made by Culina.

But when you really want good grips, there is no way to avoid Nills.

I just bought an S&W model 25 Classic.45 Colt today. It’s in a 10 day purgatory before I can pick it up. I know it’s an N frame but the grips look very much like yours.
The thing that surprised me was it appears to have Roper grips on it. I wouldn’t be surprised that they are made by Altamont. I had read that S&W had trimmed their grips down. I was very happy with the way these felt when I picked up the revolver for the first time.
Looking forward to getting my K frame grips in the mail as well.

I recently bought some K frame Pachmayr Presentation grips from Amazon. They were too big for my model 19. The gun literally flopped around inside the grip. I sent them back.
Same here. I bought the K/L frame grips Pachmayr presentation grips from Amazon for a S&W 586 and they were very loose, I sent them back. I am not sure what happened to Pachmayr but they were once very good, could these be counterfeit???

VZ Grips has proved to be a great grip for me. Their shape is designed to be comfortable and controllable. Shown is K frame model 320 square butt, they make them in round and convertible also. They are made from G10 and cut by CNC. The front of the grips form a v shape that locks into the inner finger joints which offers greater gun control. Upon recoil you retain your grip rather then having your gun moving around in your hand so much. I have bought 4 pairs now and been pleased with all.

The checkering pattern is different than mine. Altamont grips have two brass pins internal to the grips to provide proper alignment (in addition to the S&W frame-mounted pin), also, they're stamped on the inside with item code "KRP" in large letters and company name in small letters.

After I pick this gun up in 9 days I will remove the grips, take a photo and post it.

I don’t know for sure but the packaging look just like the packaging I have from my Gripper grips and the emblems in the grips looked exactly like the emblem on my Gripper grips. I kind of wish I would have photographed the package and the grip now.

OK, that didn't take long, I started looking on Ebay, caved, and just ordered a set of Thai grips. LOL

Am I allowed to post a link to them?

The grips came pretty quickly from Thailand, but the post office played soccer with them, booting them around the country for 5 days. Arrived in my state, left my state, arrived in my city, left my city, then back and sat there for 2 days. Still, they arrived faster than some of my holiday cards. lol

The grips fit my Model 65 perfectly, are cut for speed loaders, have nice sharp checkering. Comfortable in my hand with a Coke bottle shape. The uncut portion in the middle is vaguely reminiscent of Roper grips. I like ‘em!

Edit: I should add, they're solid rosewood, not a laminate.

Well, I finally got my new Altamont Roper grips yesterday. Took a while...

Anyway, they look great and they feel much narrower than the S&W Target grips but they are only about 1/8” narrower at the base.

Difference in widths of the Target grip vs Roper grip. Sorry I couldn’t get the right angle but the lines are accurate. C02F5B0D-ED06-4841-B31D-C2773752A1DC.jpeg

I will be taking it to the range tomorrow to see how it feels when shooting it with the new grip. It feels really good. They feel like the grip on my new model 25 Classic.
