Kahr P9-recoil?

Hello everyone-

Of those that know, what is the recoil of the P9 like? Everyone tells me how bad a 15 ounce .38 kicks, so I would think that a 15 ounce 9 loaded hot would be as bad or worse. What do you think?

nw, hello to you. Carry the P9 as a bug with Winchester +P+ ammo. I would concur that it's the same as a light .38 with hot loads. (Used to carry a M642 with hot loads).

Recoil is all personal perception so for some this may be bad, others just shrug. *Shrug* You don't get something for nothing (well, unless you're on the receiving end of my tax payments).

The recoil of the P9 is minimal. It is very controllable and easy to shoot.

I found it much easier to shoot than the 342 or 642.
I did find the grip to be too thin, I beefed it up with a Hogue slip on grip.
Neat little gun.

Recoil is about what you would expect for a small lightweight gun but not unmanageable. I shot some IDPA matches with mine last year and really didn't notice the recoil. If you're going to shoot 300 rounds at the range one after the other, you'll notice the recoil.

Going from standard ammo to +P is quite noticeable, but not unmanageable. What I mostly notice is greatly increased muzzle flash. I decided against getting a .40 P-40 simply because I felt by that point recoil would be too sharp to effectively control the gun. FWIW I carry standard loads in mine.

I just bought my P9 Covert and after cleaning it up (and switching the magazine springs which were somehow installed backwards ) put 50 rounds of S&B and 50 rounds of 124 +P Gold Dots through it. That right there says it's not too horrible. The action is going to take up some of the recoil and though I'm not a big fan of plastic guns, polymer guns seem to have a bit less felt recoil, considering the weight difference. I will admit that while the difference between standard and +P isn't too much on a 1911, it is pretty noticable with the poly Kahr.

I cleaned it up again and put about 40 more rounds of 124 +P Gold Dots through it and had my wife shoot the last 12 rounds of the day and she doesn't like stout recoil at all. Since this is the '2 finger' gripped Covert, it's even flippier and harder to hold on to and neither she nor I had any problems controlling it and 15 yards.
