Kahr PM9 Experiences? (Ignore Poll)

I've started looking at a Kahr PM9. Unfortunately I have zero experience with Kahr pistols--they don't seem to show up in the shops down here.

The search function brings up an encyclopedia, but most are just mentions in passing.

If you own/have owned a PM9, I would greatly appreaciate your input.

Thanks,

John

PS, I screwed up the poll--so I guess this is a comments thread now

Interesting, I can't even change the subject of the thread anymore...

I can't choose more than one option. So...

My PM9 has been reliable, easy to find a holster for, comfortable, more accurate than I am, worth the money and any other positive choices you had on that list. It's a good gun and I enjoy it completely.

Well, clearly I screwed this up...

I can't edit the poll and I can't delete the post so we'll just have to turn this into a comment post instead of a poll.

Sorry about that folks.

A couple years ago I had a P9 Covert. I could make it jam with a non-strangle-hold grip. After a few hundred rounds, it worked its way up to jamming every round. I sent it to Kahr and they sent it back ... fixed. Back to jamming only when I let up on the grip. I eventually traded it off on something.

After that, I tried to make a J-frame work for me ... 360 ... and then the 340 (owned both for a while) ... went to a range and just drew the 340 from my pocket and proceeded to shoot ... it failed ... pulling the trigger wouldn't do anything ... cleaned it and got some lint out ... then it seemed to work ok ... no pocket holster was ever used with it ... but, after all the pain and missing 12" at 5yds, I gave up on em.

Realizing I couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with a J-frame ... let alone one light enough for pocket-carry, and hearing good things about the PM9, I decided to give 'er another try (albeit a slightly different design).

1st range trip: 200rds of Winchester white-box, followed by 40rds of Hydrashoks ... not one failure ... NOT EVEN THE HINT OF ONE FAILURE!

2nd range trip: (after cleaning) ... 200rds of Winchester white-box, followed by 40rds of Golden Sabre ... NOT EVEN THE HINT OF ONE FAILURE!

Mitch Rosen #18 arrived about 2wks after ordering.

Been in my pocket ever since. Actually, I think I'll have to give 'er another workout one of these days.;)

Gun cost $625 brand new with Trijicons installed.

Bottom-line? I think they had a design issue with the P9 Covert than they fixed in the PM9 (possibly the Covert, as well by now ... if they even make that anymore). Definately worth trying ... if it don't work right, send it back ... if it still don't work right, dump it ... if you dare, try again. But, if you get one that works right, MAN! is it ever awesome!:D

Good luck.

My PM9 has been completely reliable through numerous boxes of Winchester white box, Federal American Eagle, and some Remington Golder Sabers. Not one misfire. No hand-loads tried.

I bought this primarily to be a warm weather pocket gun, and while it works pretty well in that role it's not perfect. I say that because it conceals well in loose pants but tends to flop around just enough to be irritating. It looks pretty much like a wallet I suppose but despite it's relatively light weight, it's a little hard to get used to the movement. In tight pants it seems to print too much for my taste. I have a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster.

On the other hand, it absolutely disappears in an IWB holster which I carry around the 4 o'clock position. Doesn't bother me sitting in the car and it's size and weight make it a real pleasure to carry. I have gone to IWB carry for all situations except for summer T-shirt weather, in which the pocket carry is pretty reasonable. Just takes a little getting used to.

Hope this helps.

I've been very pleased with my PM9. During the first 100 rounds, the pistol didn't go fully into battery on two occasions. It has been 100% since then. I have well over 1,000 rounds through mine now. I haven't had to use Kahr's customer service. Mine is very accurate and has a nice smooth trigger.

I carry my PM9 with confidence every day.

I answered based on my experience with my PM40 since I don't have a PM9.

Accurate, reliable, good customer service, worth the money.

Since I got my PM40 I rarely have to carry my Kel-Tec P3AT. If you ever need it, how much is having a 180 gr 0.40 worth compared to a 102 gr 0.355 pill to throw? Sure I've better guns that cost less but they are likely at home in the safe, hence worthless at that moment.

While I did have a major function issue with my PM9 on it's maiden voyage to the range, Kahr more than made up for the inconvenience by QUICKLY repairing/returning it with a spare mag for my troubles. It's been flawless since it's return and I confidently carry it regularly. It is very accurate for it's size, and the most concealable gun I own. I'd rather carry my compact 1911 style .45 weather permitting, but in the summer months I can't hide it NEAR as well as the Kahr. I'd buy it again.

I've been very happy with mine, although I don't carry it that often it does fill a niche in my overall carry package and allows me to always have a pistol. Mine has been reliable with the Gold Dot 124 +P that I use for carry.
