After reading a few threads on the subject,I checked the link on my Kart Ez-fit barrel (.45acp) and the hole is elongated as follows...205 x .215. I ordered a new #3 wilson link. Do I need to order a pin with it or can I use the original? What other areas do I need to check? I have fired around 200 rounds through the gun since the barrel was fit. Remember, I'm a rookie so keep your trouble shooting detailed..:)

Kart and oblong link..

Hello Hooks and welcome to THR.

If I read it right, you have fired give or take, a couple of hundered rounds through the Kart with an oblong link.

If it has functioned reliably, I'm not sure I'd change the link. I managed to mis-fit a Kart to the second lug about a year ago. Its running along quite well despite my ignorance.

1911Tuner should be along soon to lend a hand with your question. Most likely he'll mention stuff like 'lug engagement'. Not only does he know what he's about, but he's also good at explaining stuff that even a ten thumbed Neanderthal such as myself can understand.

Thanks Salty, Yes you are correct. My frame is having the front strap worked on so I can't use that unfortunately at the moment. I really haven't had problems, but just want to double check my work and learn what to look for and how to fix it.

Tuner 'l be along directly. He's most likely out playing with the dogs or playing 'catch-up' on an overdue 'honey-do list' from his bride.

"Wide Barrel Link for 1911"? What is it?!

I was going to begin a thread to ask this, but it seems to fit here. I have noted that one of my 1911s have a somewhat sloppy link. I had seen replacement link, and so I thought I would check into Kart barrel prices, etc.

As I was looking at MidwayUSA, I noted this "Wide Barrel Link for 1911". What is a wide link, and what does it allegedly do? Here is a link:

Hooks...I've been tryin' to find somebody who can tell me why Kart uses an elongated hole in their Easy-Fit links for over a year now...so far, without any conspicious success. So, I continue to speculate...and I continue to replace'em with a Wilson #3.

I occasionally elongate the hole in the top radius in order to get the barrel off the link during the trip into battery...which doesn't affect linkdown timing...but not .010 inch worth of wallowin'.

Thanks Tuner,

If I understand you correctly.. replace the wallowing .010 link with a the Wilson #3 I ordered. Can I still use the original pin?

Do you think the elongated hole in the link is compensation for the whole theory of fitting a barrel with hand tools?

Regards,

Jim(hooks):)

re:

You can use the original pin. It's probably pretty tight, so you may want to chamfer the ends and the hole slightly to help get it started.

The oblong hole? Only thing that I can come up with is to compensate for the occasional mislocated vertical impact surface...too far rearward.
