Has anyone ever dealt with KEAD BULLETS from the Dallas Texas area? (http://www.keadbullets.com/) I ordered some 9MM about a month ago and have not received them yet. I spoke with the owner and he said that when ever he makes a production run is when he ships. He seemed like a very nice guy, just sort of an old country boy. Any way, just wondering if I should order from somewhere else before another major price hike hits.

I've been buying from him for about 4 years. The problem is, his orders have gone up because of the number of Bullseye shooters that have started ordering from him and he has a problem keeping up. It will take several phone calls to get him on the ball and make sure your order goes out. He does make a good bullet. He just raised his prices, so I don't think he'll be raising them again any time soon.

I've purchased bullets from him in the past. They were good bullets, at a reasonable price. Most small operators have to do bullets in batches, because it takes so much time to change the molds in the casting machine and calibrate it for the new bullet. They will run off what they think they need to fill orders and then set the machine up for the next bullet run. Then the bullets have to be sized and lubed, then boxed and shipped. It all takes time and a lot of these guys are one man operations.

Hope this helps.

Fred

His bullets are pretty good and he is a strainght forward guy to talk to. Probably due to production demands-some of his orders take a little more time. Mine wasn't one of them.

Great guy to talk to, I agree. BUT, I ordered 1500 rounds from him about a month ago and haven't gotem' yet. Don't think I will ever get them but great if they come, no biggy if they don't.

I enquired about .380 bullets and he told me he does 1-2 batches a month so that may be some of the delay.

I've ordered and shot a ton of his bullets. Good Bullets, great prices.

He was very upfront with me that commercial orders got priority and the he scheduled in "individual" orders as they fit. I believe that it took about 2 months to get the first 2k of .45 ACP, and 2 - 2 1/2 months to get the 2k of .45 LC.

I don't know what his prices are now as I'm casting my own, but at the time he was about 1/2 the price of the other suppliers I was looking at.

FWIW

He has a full time-part time job and makes bullets on the side He usuall is 45-60 days behind I have bought 50,000 or so from him and it is allways the same. when he get enought orders for one then he will set up and run that bullet Great guy just hang in there

One good thing is he won't charge you until the bullets are shipped.
You just have to plan ahead for the stuff you need.
Don't shoot any faster then he casts.

I know this is an old thread but I had to post a comment on these folks. George took my order happily... Charged my credit card happliy... Told me my order would ship in a month (I was happy)... Now for the problem; after 3 months I still do not have my bullets. As others have said, they have a email address but they do not reply. I can not get a hold of him by phone either. Everytime I call I get a message that the phones mailbox is full. It says that you can leave a number for his pager but he does not call back... I wrote him a letter about this but he did not reply. He has over $300 of my money and I have none of his bullets. I gave up trying last week and contacted the BBB.org. It may not help but at least other people will know what they can expect...

I'll update my previous post on here:

I no longer use or recommend KEAD Bullets of Texas. George is a nice guy and his bullets are good HOWEVER his business practices leave a lot to be desired. Basically, he makes bullets whenever he feels like it. He ships to his big customers and gunstores first. If he doesn't get enough made to ship to individuals, oh well, you wait for the next run (whenever that is). He does not return messages. He does not check his emails. He does not bother to keep you informed if he can't meet the shipping dates he himself sets.

I cancelled a 10,000 bullet order with George because he told me the same thing three times- he would add my order to a large order for a commercial reloader that was going out that week. Then no contacts for a month. I could understand if it was an order for 500 of something. But this was 10K 9mm 125-rn.

Getting ahold of George is basically luck of the draw, if you call, and he has his phone turned on, and he answers it.

Good luck with your situation.

George is a full time deputy and this is only a side job. He's currently looking for some help in his bullet shop. My brother wanted me to apply but I'm hesitant. I have my own things to do.

This being said, I do not believe he should charge you until your order is complete. I may try to meet with him in a couple of weeks.

Greetings,

I cannot recommend kead bullets too. Last year I ordered a bunch of bullets and never got them deliverred. I called him many times and he promised me he would ship them in the week and never got anyone.

There are many casters that are holding their words and producing as good as bullets than kead. I give my business to those who give me what I asked for and promised for.

Thank you

No question a nice guy....

Told me it would take as long as 3 or 4 weeks for the bullets (380 in this case ordered mid March)..it took about 3 months and change...several phone calls...some of which he answered some of which I got "the machine is full".

For a time I wundered if I was being scammed.

The bullets are nice quality and he did call as a follow-up but probably will go somewhere else for the next order

I've met Mr. Kead while he was dropping off bullets at a local gunshop and talked to him, and I have certainly used a bunch of his bullets. Yes, he is just a good ol' boy who casts when he has time.

I have no quarrel with his product, and buy it when I can. However, I buy mostly from Missouri and Dardas because they turn around orders quickly and ship a quality product.

Let me clarify my previous post: I ordered 10,000 9mm bullets from KEAD. George (who is a nice guy and a deputy sheriff) works the casting jobs as a sideline and doesn't have a lot of help (the joke is his wife won't let him hire a pretty young girl to run the office stuff). Over the course of about 4 months, I got the same story- a big order of 9mm is being run for my commercial customers, I'll do yours then & will ship next week. Wait a month- no bullets. After trying to call repeatedly I'd finally get through- and he would say- I misplaced your order. I'll add it on the next run, should ship next week. Repeat a total of three times. Finally he said the exact same thing again- but there had been a price increase a week or so ago and he told me I would now have to pay the higher price. Forget it. Found another supplier who ships when he says he would.

I never had a problem with George or his products other than his inability to deliver when promised (and then wanting me to pay more because he "lost" my order and now had a price increase). If I could get them in a timely fashion I would still be using KEAD's bullets.

I got a phone message from George last week. He claims he never got my calls or letter. I do not believe him. From how he was talking I could tell he got a letter from BBB about my complaint. He said my bullets have been sitting there for some time and he put them on the back-burner because he was busy with other orders (that didn't stop him from charging my CC for the whole amount). He gave me his home number and asked me to call and say if I wanted a refund or the 6K bullets. I called twice plus his shop once but couldn't reach him. Finally left a message at his house. Told him to either ship my order the following week or issue me a refund. Sadly, I never received either... If I have waited too long for my CC company to give me a refund I'll have to try something else.

Minor update-

Since my problems with KEAD I wound up buying almost 30,000 bullets of various sizes and styles from another vendor. All shipped promptly and quickly. That wasn't a small amount of cash to spend.

Now, however, I cast my own. Price is much less that way and I control the size I make them.

I see George at KEAD has on his website that he bills your CC when he casts your bullets since then the alloy is spoken for by you, and then he could take weeks to lube and size them. Then he says if you don't like it, call him and he'll take your name off of them, there's a waiting list of people who want his bullets. Must be nice to have the customer base who will put up with that.

If I wasn't casting my own, I'd be buying lead bullets, but they wouldn't ever be from KEAD. Missouri Bullet is a THR supporter and the bullets I've seen from them are first rate.

I ended up getting all of my money back from my credit card company. After George noticed that, he called me. He said that he'd send me 1000 bullets for the trouble I went through. That was almost a year ago and No, he never sent those bullets...
