Keeping a gun at the ready?

I have at least one firearm on me unless I'm asleep. And even then, it's close by -as in arms reach. An NAA mini is in my pocket unless I'm in the courthouse, post office, etc. Additionally, I have a 38 special, or 9 mm single stack on my belt if I'm in town. If I'm out in the sticks on my property, I still have the NAA in my pocket and a single six 22 wmr, or something similar (Bearcat) on my belt.

I even have a weapon within reach when I'm in the shower or bathtub.

The Good Lord can call me home whenever He desires. But, I refuse to allow some dirtbag to put a round in me without me being able to shoot back!

"You get to decide when you carry your gun, someone else gets to decide when you need it."
I would add, we all should carry a gun that we can fight with. That excludes most pocket pistols, although any gun is better than none at all. I try to never be more than seconds away from having a gun in my hand. Always armed when I have my pants on. Home security includes solar powered motion detector lights & camera, dogs, point of entry alarms, locked fence gates and hardened doors. Paranoid? Nope, just cautious. The world we live in is a dangerous place.

Had that gun store clerk in Paraguay kept is gun anywhere but on his person, he would not be with us today.

I'm not familiar with the incident you're referring but the OP specified at home and that changes everything.

I never (excluding the obvious caveats) leave my home unarmed but in my home I'm behind four walls and a locked door.

A gun store is open to the public. People come and go and you can't warn people off and expect to stay in business.

I used to laugh at the internet comments on shower guns. People screwing waterproof containers to their shower walls to keep a gun in.

Until a guy stopped at home intrusion with his...

It should reduce tthe likelihood of a sudden entry and attack, but it does not change the situation when it occurs.

Once you are inside and have locked the door, yes. But we still have to come and go, make trips to the trash can, and perhaps go in and out while grilling.
We had a case here a couple of years ago in which a couple returned home from shopping and were rushed from behind while coming in the door, held at gunpoint , and robbed.

I think I've already covered that

Were they the type of people who routinely took any type of self-defense precautions? Were they armed? Were they the slightest bit aware of their surroundings?

I'm not saying I'm Jason Bourne and impervious to attack and if it ever does happen (again) I'll do my best to react appropriately but none of the above has convinced me that I need to have a gun on my person while I'm sitting on the couch watching Little House.

If you think so.

I would not want to strap on a gun every time I wanted to go though a door.

Go back and read my edited post.

I don't do a lot of in and out. I try to get everything I need to do outside of the house for the day in one trip.

If I'm doing something (such as grilling) that necessitates any in and out I have a gun on.

I wore a uniform and a duty belt or a uniform and an LBE every day for a large portion of my adult life. I'm retired now I'm sitting on the couch in gym shorts and a T-shirt and no shoes. I'm not going out again tonight.

My gun (and my attack cat) are within arms reach.

If that's not good enough I'll die happy

You have to ask yourself are you being paranoid enough. Here is to never finding out.
If your firearm was acquired for self preservation, and it is not immediately accessible when it is needed, the idea of having it was poorly conceived.

I think your concept of "immediately accessible" might be different from some of the other members here.
