Kel-Tec P32 for Carry?

Okay, so here are images that show some differences between the generations.
The FDE is the 2nd generation.

Different extractor, reinforced chamber with loaded chamber cutout.

Thicker slide that tames some recoil and inspires a little more confidence (since it still feels like a toy).

The muzzle end is a one-piece construction on the newer P32s. The previous model (on the right) has a rather flimsy piece of metal holding in the recoil assembly. It works but has always been a source of concern for me. This is the greatest improvement, IMHO.

If anyone wants to see the P32 compared to the TCP, I can provide those images too. Besides the grip area, the sizes are quite similar.

I wouldn't mind seeing the P32 against the TCP PT732, but I expect the KT will still be smaller. After all, the PT732, despite being in the smaller caliber than the 738, still holds one round less than the P32.

I have a 1st generation P32. It is still going strong with nothing replaced. It doesn't get shot a lot, but it does get shot regularly, probably 50-100 rounds a year. Just enough to make sure that it still functions.

Okay.

Here's an view of all three

Here's the 1st gen P32 sitting atop the TCP (yes, there really is a TCP under that P32)

The P32 has a one-round advantage over the TCP, but one must admit the .380acp is substantially larger than the .32acp (73gr S&B .32 acp FMJ on the left, Underwood Ammunition 65gr .380acp Xtreme Defender on the right)

Here's where the big difference is and the reason why the P32 really excels at concealing in the tightest of places

I think it is a pretty great little pistol. Sure, you don't want to go up against Hells Angels with one. But if I need something that is truly invisible, I carrry the P32. With the belt clip I have run 10 miles with it clipped inside my underarmor. I never even noticed it. I could never say that about my Shield or J-frame.

LIfe is always a balance - if you need 100% insurance against ever being injured, you should never get in your car or take a shower. Me, I will take a P32 on occasion just like sometimes I will ride in the bed of a pickup.

Like the Baltimore Public Defenders used to say - a reasonable chance for a reasonable price!

I am more interested in those who have actually fired or owned a P32 and who can comment on its reliability and shooting characteristics. Thanks!

I have a P-32 that I used to carry with a 10 round magazine; it never failed at the range.

I hit better with the Tomcat (because of the wider grip and the added Pierce pinky extension), and now that I have found a OTW holster for my Tomcat it is my every day carry.

The 32 ACP not a "man-stopper", but it has its place -- especially if you can hit your target more than one (1) or five (5) times.

Since a 32 ACP is not going expand reliably, or impart hydrostatic shock, I figure an FMJ round is going to cause the same damage as stabbing the attacker with an 8 inch phillips screwdriver. In another forum, RAT76 said that a field point crossbow bolt is a better analogy than a phillips screwdriver.

A screwdriver to the thigh is not going to stop a determined thug, but I'd much prefer to run from one who has a hole in his leg, than run from one who is in perfect condition.

Likewise, having to tangle with a violent criminal who has three (3) screwdrivers stuck in his chest is a better proposition than having to engage one who is intact.

Knowing their limitations, I feel very comfortable using my Tomcat or P-32 as an EDC. I can hit with both, and that is more important to me than raw horsepower (YMMV).

I've read at least one post of the aftermarket steel rod peening the underside of the barrel.

Is seems like the OP wants one for protection, but also for lack of a better word novelty. It is unique in that it weighs only a tad over 6oz, But if recoil was a reason there are a couple of very small Pocket guns in 380. that are extremely mild to shoot and not much bigger than the Keltec. However, the OP say's it "has been calling him for years". I would say, quite waiting and pull the trigger. (pun intended). I would not be interested in one for carry, but would like to add one for my collection.

That size gun is easy to carry. I carry one (lcp)every day. The carry options are endless. When i get my 1911 or other gun, for whatever reason, the lcp becomes a backup gun.
My point is, it always goes. Spare magazine too.
I dont have any p32 experience, but i do like the size.

I might get one to be a backup to my Pico;). At 6 oz. is better than carrying a mag. It would be great for folks that do a lot of jogging or running especially the ladies. I was a competitive runner my whole life and weight always mattered. Later I did a lot of coaching and was always worried when the ladies did there training on some of the back Forrest park area's which we did have a few rapes. And a 32. could ruin some one's day. A few shots in the chest and maybe a couple into the face at close range would make a nice weapon. And besides, it is just a cool little gun.

Mine lives in my pocket every day, and has for about 7 years. The first thing I do every time I hit the range is take it out of my pocket, lint and all, and shoot it empty; I've never had a stoppage of any kind.
I take bigger to the woods and 'to town', but in the office or pumping gas it's a constant companion. Smaller and lighter than 1903s, PPKs, thinner than Tomcats and not as snappy due to the locking breech, an extra round over the LCP or P-38T, and last round hold open. The only other option I have that's truly in this size range is an NAA mag, which gives up a lot to the p32.

I vote buy one, I really like mine.

I have had mine since 2001 and did a fluff and buff and changed out the slide for a hard chrome version. Mine has never had a hiccup and has been a fairly accurate little piece. I have carried mine in a Desantis pocket holster for 17 yrs. and carry it about 90% of the time. I carry condition one with a JHP in the chamber followed up by FMJ Fiocchi .
