Kel-Tec PF9 finally has a "hiccup"

Sighted in my shotgun for deer season today, and afterwards got out the PF9 to let my nephew try it.

Was using a brand new factory mag I bought last week, and CCI Blazer Brass 115fmj, which my S&W 5906 loves, but I don't recall ever using in the PF9 before.

Loaded up the mag, and the 1st, 3rd and 5th rounds all failed to extract in that first mag, all did the same thing, the fired case came back about 1/8th inch and slipped out of the extractor and the slide came back and tried to chamber the next round into the back of the fired case. Had to manually lock the slide back and remove the magazine then pull the fired case out with my thumbnail.

After those 3 times, it then ran the rest of a full box without a hitch.

Took around 4-500 rounds for it's first problem, and still not sure why it was 3 out of the first magazine full, then ran several more magazines without anymore FTE's???

CCI Blazer Brass That be a good start a few rounds out of spec maybe . Iam not a fan of their ammo

Might be the ammo, or could be that the extractor screw has loosened up. Check it, and if it's not tight, remove it and apply some loctite.

Could just be a bad batch of that particular box of ammo. Have you used CCI ammo before that or is this the first time?

I shoot CCI Blazer Brass all the time, in 357, 9mm and 45acp, never had a problem. I can't recall if I've used it in the PF-9 before though.

Was just odd that it did this all in the first magazine, then ran perfect the rest of the box.

Was all the shooting by your nephew? Since rest of the box ran great I want to say it sounds like limpwristing as those little kel tecs need a solid wrist. In which if he had just shot the first mag that would make a lot of sense the other option was it took him the first mag to get use to the pistol itself.

I would suspect limpwristing, too, in a small, light gun shot by someone who is not familiar with the gun...

Nope, that first magazine with the 3 FTE's was me.

Also, all 3 rounds that did it, were in the first 5 out of a new box, all in the same row in the box.

I'm with the other poster that thinks you need to get out the Allen wrenches and check the extractor bolt for proper tightness. Check the extractor for breakage. If loose just a tiny bit of the blue locktite should take care of that problem.

Yep, that's where I would start as well. Other than that I am inclined to believe it may have something to do with the ammo or limp wrist.

Extractor doesn't seem loose, maybe it was just me? Never done it before, but it has been a few months since I shot it, I mostly shoot single action revolvers and large frame autos.
