I want a 9mm carbine plinker and have read much about these 3, Kel-tec Sub 2000, Hi-point 995, CX4 Storm?

It seems that the trigger on all 3 of these suck, reliability seems to be good on all 3, the Beretta cost 2-3 times more but is the best looking IMO, the Kel tech is the hardest to get, so I'm leaning toward the Hi-point 995 even though the two dealers I spoke to said these are also hard to get, but easier than the Kel-tech.

Anyone know what the trigger pull is on the Hi-point?

The Hi-point sure is ugly, but then, so am I, and I still have a beautiful wife, go figure.

I have shot 2 or 3 Hi-points and all of them had a worse trigger than my Sub-2000. The Hi-point is OK for the money but since they are going for over $200 these days I would rather spend an extra $100-150 bucks on the Kel-Tec. The Sub 2000 is just way more useful than the Hi-point...

-It folds in half (very easy to clean, hi-point is not)
-It takes standard Glock, Sig, Beretta, and S&W pistol magazines like the one in your sidearm (The Hi-Point CANNOT take C-9 pistol magazines)
-Its also smaller and lighter than the Hi-Point and easier to shoot IMO.

My High Point 995 has a great trigger. No creep or slack but, is a firm pull & dosn't seem overly heavy. Most happy with it. Mine starts with the E serial number if this helps.

The Storm's trigger isnt that bad after a couple hundred rounds, but the iron sights are terrible. The Storm is on the higher end price wise, but with a good red dot optic its the best of the three. The best ergonomics, reliability, and accuracy. I have the 9mm version with the Mec-Gar 20 round magazines, its a great pistol carbine that I kept by my side during Hurricane Ike.

I tried out my friends HiPoint and decided on the Sub for myself. The HiPoint is better than ok but not in line with the Sub. Prior to buying I read several reviews that did not like the Storm at all. My only complaint about the Sub is that it won't lock open on the last round, other than that it's really a fun shooter. Plus carrying it to the range in a briefcase is kinda cool. Mike

Several people have reported accuracy so bad with the Sub that they got rid of it. The Storm is way too pricey, doesn't compete effectively with a pistol caliber upper for an AR. The Hi-Point is butt ugly, which is fixed with a $60 aftermarket stock that makes it look like the Storm costing $500 more, and is hamstrung by poor magazine capacity which is fixed by... nothing. Rolls yer dice, takes yer chances. I'd lean toward the Hi-point in an aftermarket stock. It's at least cheap.

i have the cx4. the trigger got a lot better after a few hundred rounds. i like it a lot. I converted it to the px4 mags (17rnds of .40) because i couldnt get any of the 96 mags over 13rnds to work well. In the comparison you asked about, i thin the consensus is the cx4 is the higher quality piece. Many have mentioned the price is too high, but i agree the prices quoted are too high. I got mine for $539 and i see others getting the same.

The Kel-Tech is a very reliable and a very accurate rifle but the sights suck. Its a good rifle if you improve the sights.

A Marlin Camp 9 is also a good one to have and still under $400 if you shop around. Just check the port buffer when buying one. The buffer is also easy and cheap to replace.

I don't quite get you guys that can afford to plink with a 9mm or.40 but are worried about the cost of the weapon.
I reload and have no shortage of guns but when I plink I use a .22 and when I practice / train I shoot someting more expensive.
As far as a sub caliber carbine I must vote for the Kel Tec if only for the folding feature. The weapon can fit into something that you wouldn't expect such a potent package to ride in.

I have a Kel-Tec SUB-2000 G17 model. I love the little bugger. Get one and you will be really happy with it.

None of the triggers are great, but they don't totally suck either. I sold my CX4 Storm because it was ugly and I wanted a 9MM AR. (it is a fine little carbine) I still have my 9MM Kel-Tec, and like it a lot. I sold my .40 Kel-Tec to a THR member who was tickled with it. I liked the 9MM better. The 9MM AR rocks! It was pricey though, compared to other options.

I have a Keltec Sub2k .40 and a buddy of mine has a Hipoint 9mm. Both rifles are fun and inexpensive plinkers. Are their triggers similar to an Super Match AR-15 Trigger...NO are they bad triggers...not really, a bit long but smooth. The biggest drawback to the sub2k now is price ($375-400) and avaliability (non-existant!). If it were me I would get the hipoint. I holding out for their much anticipated .45 rifle!
