I've got a new Kel-Tec P-11. Nice gun, but it has a strange quirk: the bullets in a full magazine rattle around like loose marbles, and actually make an annoying and distinctive sound.

Anybody have a solution to this mag rattle sound?

Let me know how it works for you. If you need a more permanent solution, I can find a thread or two on reshaping the bottoms of the followers. The 12 round flush-fit (formerly LEO-only) mags don't seem to have a rattle problem, BTW.

I just ordered 2 extra ten round mags from Kel Tec, with extensions which I installed today. I saw the 12 round LE models in their online store, but I didn't know if they'd sell them to a civilian, or if they had problems or what. Maybe I should have ordered them. It seems like a quirky follower with geometry leading to a rattle should be easy for Kel Tec to fix.

Mec-Gar designed and manufacturers the mags, not Kel-Tec. In any event, it seems only some 10 rounders rattle, and some only rattle with certain types of ammo.

My Glock 19 15 round mags rattle. I was under the impression that all 9mm mags rattled, due to the tapered shape leaving up-down space at the front of the round for them to move vertically?

The tapered shape is indeed the root of the problem. If your mag rattles, it usually means something is not in the right position, and the front part of the cartridges are not under tension/pressure. Maybe try new springs or followers in your Glock mags if you find some. Make sure the mag tube is clean and free of imperfections as well.

I have run into a number of hi cap mags that would rattle with a certain number of rounds in them. Usually it was when fully loaded, or one shy. Sometimes the follwer just doesn't engage right.
