First off let me say that I have paid very little attention to Kel-Tec firearms, only enough to know that I wasn't interested in any of their offerings

Yesterday afternoon I was leafing through the new American Rifleman magazine and saw an ad for the P50. I'm interested in anyone's thoughts on this gun. The only opinion I have is from the picture and I'll keep it to myself for the time being.

I like it, from what I have seen and read so far. The ergonomics seem ok for a handgun of it size. Will be interesting to see that usable holster for it look like. Not sure I have any good use for it, but it does have some cool Sci-Fi look to it for sure.

I like that they're always coming up with "different" designs rather than just pumping out AR clones like everyone else.

As a pistol, I don't really want it, but if someone comes up with a stock adapter I'd love to SBR one.

Like I said in my OP, I have little interest in anything Kel-Tec and apparently just skipped over this. Afer looking at it I still have no interest in Kel-Tec.

No need to take offense just letting folks know that there's additional information on this subject.

I'll have to get my hands on one before I really commit one way or another. Was really excited about their 30+ rimfire pistols until I held them, I hope this is different. Wish they had figured out a way for the magazine to pop out the side rather than the current hinged style.

My thoughts exactly! A pistol weighing more than 3 pounds unloaded isn't really what I'm looking for in a handgun. Now have that as a short barreled carbine; that's something that piques my curiosity and interest.

Is that Kel-tech's own proprietary magazine or is it the FN PS90 magazine?

I'll bet good money we see that thing in a sci-fi movie any day now. Not entirely sold on that magazine, though, looks fragile to me. Still a very cool range toy and home defense piece, IMO.

The magazine the P50 uses is made by KelTec but it is Keltec's copy of, and compatible with, the original FN P90 magazine. That magazine though unconventionally has proven to be a very reliable magazine that has been around since the 1980's.

I don't doubt it a bit but I bet it will probably fire about 500 rounds on one mag instead of just 50. Has anyone noticed how long full auto guns will fire on one mag in most of the TV shows and movies?

It looks so cool from the side but after watching that video you realize it needs a [WIDE-LOAD] sign on the back of it.

He's shootin' it wrong. It's a semi-auto sub gun and should be fired like one.

Watching him shoot it like that kind of makes my head hurt. Looks way more natural and comfortable to shot pushed out against a sling.

They said in a video they pretty much designed it around expecting it to be braced.

seems like a cool concept, but why would it be any better than a Fabrique Nationale FN PS90 semi-automatic carbine?

I bought a Grendel p30 many years ago before Kelgren ran Grendel aground.... they were almost as ugly as his last few guns. Allen heads and nuts holding them together..etc. later I bought a pmr-30. Same result on pretty much the same gun. If anything my old one runs a bit better.. They do have a few usable guns now though. I have nothing against his new designs other than I truly believe he tries to make them ugly. I even stopped and looked up that 5.7 when I saw the ad in rifleman or shooter.

I have a Fiveseven. The only redeeming quality it (the 5.7 round) has IMHO is that it has has rifle accuracy and 17hmr varmint killing ability in a very light and small package one can wear on his hip and forget. This things gives up about 2/3 of those qualities at best....

And yeah ammo is high now.... but it's really not always that high. 20-25 dollars for 50 was what I paid for almost all mine. And its closer to match grade ammo than ANY 22 mag ammo that people compare it to.

I don't think it'll be better, but right now PS90's are selling for $2000 and this is expected to be around $500. There's a bit of a difference :).

    It's the FN P90/PS90 50 round mag.
