Good morning all!

I have a question for those of you doing long range hunting, I have recently gotten into coyote hunting and have started extending the range of which I take shots. Over the past year I have gotten pretty deep into long range shooting, and reloading so I want to utilize my practice and equipment.

My question is in regards to the use of a wind/environmental gauge such as a kestrel. How important are these? Do you guys who shoot long distances have any recommendations for a guy getting into these? I dont feel as though I would need the top of the line kestrel but want to see what others thoughts are.

Thanks in advance!

I have a 2500 or 3000 ,can't remember but when I go for long distance shooting I take & use it .I would rather have the 4500 or 5500 but I didn't go that route . It works great but the other two are more useful

I have the 4500nv that doesn't have the applied ballistics. I also have the wind vane/ tripod setup that's an accessory. I link with my strelok app and it constantly updates wind, not just when I attempt to measure. It's a handy tool that I have mainly used for range work, but I have used it when sitting on a long open field.

I started on a 2500, then bought a 4500NV, which has now been replaced by their Elite Weather Meter line.

The applied ballistic software versions are worth the extra cost, bar none. I use my 2500 a lot still to practice my wind reading - I carry it and a Sig Kilo 2000 on my belt almost every day and take random readings any time the wind is blowing to stay practiced on wind reading, and the Kilo for range estimation practice.
