I love this forum. I must admit that i am on this thing at work, home, on my mobile smartphone...but it talked me out buying a Kimber today.:banghead:

I was at the gun shop, i was holding the most beautiful Kimber Custom CDP II. I felt like Ralphy and his Red Ryder BB Gun:D But after reading some of the posts on how un-reliable 1911"s truly are i second guessed myself and decided to wait until tomorrow.

How reliable are Kimbers..Honestly? Can you trust them with your life?

Help me out,im getting an awesome deal at a cost of $890 for the Kimber Custom CDP II...

Thanks
Ironman

1911's aren't unreliable. The original design wasn't made for hollowpoints - nothing was at the time. Later, people modified their 1911's to feed hollowpoints well. Now that is just one more feature that is built into the gun, along with sights you can actually use.

I have a Kimber Pro. It feeds and has gone *boom* every single time. It is on occasion my carry gun.

You can find negatives about every gun you'd ever think about buying on the internet. Kimber has a reputation for standing behind their weapons.

I had problems with a brand new Ruger SP101 revolver! I had problems with my first keltec P3AT but the second one (yes I actually traded the first one for the second) has be absolutely perfect).

Guns are manufactured and theres a rate of defect in everything that is made so buy from a reputable mfg who stands behind their gun. Remember that when a guy has a bad experience they tend to get on the net and make a crusade out of getting everyone to swear off that gun. I do think you can see trends but even then you have to be careful not to be too swayed. The Kimber CDP II is very likely to be a fine weapon for you. If you get one with an issue, I believe kimber will stand behind it.

Get what you want from one of the bigger names that are known for standing behind their product and you'll be fine and remember that far more people post about problems with their guns than when they buy one and it simply works! So if a gun is VERY popular like the Keltec P3AT, then they'll sell more and you'll likely hear more about the bad. In that case the 1st gen P3AT's did have some design issues that affected ejection but even with those many never had a problem.

I too have wanted one of those kimbers!!!

God Bless

I own a Ultra CDP

I have fired thousands of rounds through it. They were mostly plated 200gr. handloads. I have tried at least a dozen different powder/load combinations. My gun feeds them all. I trust it completely. It is a quality firearm. It carrys well in a Milt Sparks summer special holster.

I've got a Compact CDP that I trust my life to - it's my primary CCW. I had an ejection problem with it about 2 months ago. I sent it back to Kimber and not only did they replace the whole slide (to change from an external to internal ejector), the replaced the rear night sight and polished the guide rod - all at no charge, and I'm not even the original owner. The icing on the cake was the 3 week turnaround time.
I'd buy that Kimber in a heartbeat.

More people have Kimbers that work than those that are trouble.
My self I would buy a Colt. But if I was sluming I could be forced to get a Kimber:D

I bought it..shot it...and even proposed to it!

OMG!:what:
This gun is awesome...thank you all for your input. It helped me make the right decision. I took it to the range, loaded it up with some Remington 185gr FMJ and BOOM! Every round in the first clip hit EXACTLY where i was aiming at 25 yards. I have never shot a 1911 before so i was worried that it would much more difficult than my XD-9sc and the even smaller Star Firestar .40.
Was i wrong! This thing is accurate beyong my wildest dreams.
Kimber Custom CDP II for $890...a dream!

I havent figuered out how to post pictures yet but i am taking some cool pictures of it to share along with the targets i used to test it out for the first time.

BTW, anyone interested in buying a Star Firestar .40 S&W. It is accurate and reliable, clean and great shape. I have 2 10 round mags and all original documents. I'll let it go CHEAP! PM ME

Tony.... you owe me a keyboard!!:D Enjoy it, it's a great gun. If you are looking for a holster the Milt Sparks VM-2 is also a good one.

:neener:
the dealer who sold it, had the gun marked a CUSTOM TLE II...who knows maybe thats why he let it go so cheap? Im taking it to the range again saturday...
