I recently purchased an XD-9 sub for my wife and now its time for me to get mine.
I have been looking at the different 1911's out there and there is a lot to choose from. I used a Kimber at a local range but Im not sure on the model.
Either way, I am planning on carrying this 1911 sometimes so i want something that is functional for carry and also good for the home.
I was looking at the Kimber Custom CDP II or the Pro CDP II....
Can anyone help me with the major diff's between the 2?
Any other 1911 recomendations other than the Kimbers?
I really want something i can carry but i dont want a compact.

Thanks

The differences between the custom and the pro is the length of the slide. the barrel length of the pro is 4" and the custom is 5". that will make it a little lighter. same story with the colt government (5") and the commander (4.25"). the length of the grip (the part above the belt line when you CC) is the same. depending upon your build and method/position of carry the grip may stick out a little, thus more likely to print. the officer's model took the width of one round of .45 off the length of the grip making it easier to conceal. with the colt CCO and Kimber compact you get the officer frame with a 4.25" or 4" barrel the same as the commander and pro but on a more concealable frame.

I am mostly interested in occasional IWB carry with the 1911...it doesnt have to be a Kimber, after some review, i am leaning towards the Springfield just because i think its a good platform to start building on. The kimbers look nice, i shot one and loved it but too expensive and i hear quality is a concer.
C'mon, someone here has to be carrying a 1911 which is not a compact on a regular basis..
any suggestions would be appreciated.:D

Thanks,
