Got confirmation today on a Kimber that I bid on for $575 and its on its way.

So all you Kimber and 1911 guru's, what recommended updates do you suggest?

Pistol has 200 rounds thru it so break in is still a factor.

I'd say none, except maybe some Wilson magazines. If you want night sights, I'd go with Heinies.

Upgrades

First thing....detail-strip it and clean it.

Second...Get a Brown Hardcore extractor and set the tension on it.(May require minor fitting/alteration)

Third...Get some Wolff magazine springs for whatever brand magazine you choose.

Fourth...Shoot it 200 times with ball ammo and report any malfunctions that repeat themselves more than one time and that can't isolated to one particular magazine.

If no problems are noted, proceed to test it with your chosen carry ammo.

Luck!

I have not done a thing to my Kimber since I got in 2000. It has well over 4,000 rounds through it and the only malfunctions I had were either my reloaded ammo or magazine related.

Still you always want to run a lot of rounds through a gun before you plan on carrying it. Especially a used gun, because sometimes people do stupid things to their guns.

about the only thing I would suggest is if it has an aluminum frame, use Wilson mags NOT McCormick or Kimber, the magazines will cause damage at the base of the feed ramp. Other than that just shoot it.

TimL, I read the sticky at 1911forum about the mag issues and aluminum frame. So I will definitely keep an eye on it.

The Kimber I purchased has night sights and the owner said they are still bright.

I plan on getting another extractor and using Wolff springs in the pistol.

I definitely will give it a workout before taking the G19's place as my CCW rig.

Ditto what Sean said on the Heinies if you want night sights.

I have them on a Classic Stainless and they are great sights!

Mine shoots about 3-4 inches low at 25 yards with hardball, which is apparently common with the series I Pro Carry's.
I'm gonna send it off to Wilson Combat for adjustable sights eventually.
Other than that I'm not planning to change anything.
