Kimber Ultra Carry

I am considering purchasing the Kimber Ultra Carry .45 ACP for my concealed carry gun. One individual told me that due to Kimber's extremely tight tolerances, it takes 1,000 rounds to break this pistol in. Has anyone out there heard or experienced this?

Mine has been 100% from round one using Wilson or Kimber Pro-Tac mags with a variety of ammo styles. Some folks have experienced a failure or two during the first 2 or 3 hundred rounds before they run 100%, and then of course there are the Kimber bashers.

Bianchi holster - Great if your wearing a coat or a long loose shirt.

I also have a High Noon IWB holster that works OK.

Broke in at 250 rounds. Over 3,000 rounds down range and still tight and accurate.

I have 1911s built to tighter tolerances than Kimber. Any properly fitted firearm should function out of the box. Of the three I own/owned, one was a POC that wouldn't run after the break-in.

Kimber 45's

don't have the Ultra, but just bought the Pro Carry 2 with Crimson Trace grips. Took it to the range and it functioned beautifully-is the most accurate out-of-the-box gun I've ever shot--could'nt be a happier Kimber owner!

I think Kimbers 500 round is a lot of Bull. I also have tighter 1911 than Kimber and they didn't require a break in. Buy a Colt Defender My Colts have all run right from box. No break in I have Officers, Defender, and the new Agent. All work like they should.

I have an Ultra and a Pro Paptor, the Ultra being one of the earlier models. They have functioned fine with premium magazines which I think is almost typical of the 1911. With ball ammo most mags seem to work but if I shoot SWC and HP the Tach mags are what I use as well as for carry. For me this is also the case with Colt and Springfield 1911's.

My Ultra CDP functioned from day one. Shoot it, keep a spare set of recoil springs handy as Kimber recomends, and it should serve you well. I carry mine in a IWB Milt Sparks summer special holster.

All machinery with high speed moving parts require a breakin period. Whether it be marked in miles, hours or rounds fired...

I've heard that because of the compact size (more recoil), you have to have a really tight hold and can't allow any limp-wristing at all or you'll have problems. Also, Kimber guns are awesome...their mags...not so much. Go with Wilson Combat or Chip McCormick mags and you'll be good to go.

Only one required a couple hundred round break in, the Eclipse.

I use a Don Hume JIT Slide for carry.
